Pumidors Pictures!
Just thought I’d start a topic with pumidor pictures for anyone who has one and would like to share. I personally don’t have one, but one like to eventually. Maybe I can get some ideas from the ones my fellow steepsters post here.
great idea. I’ve got about a dozen cakes now that I can’t possibly drink quickly. So I need to start thinking medium to long term storage.
Will be great to see some of the “fancier” methods.
I just started a collection which consists of three cakes. I just have them out laying around. So that’s what I am hoping to get out of this thread. Everyone to share their own personal pumidor and get ideas from it. So come on folks, if you have pumidors. Share them!
I don’t have great storage yet, but my husband put in for this kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1343942869/steaklocker-the-first-in-home-dry-age-steak-fridge and I bet it could do pu’er – would be totally killer too with controlling humdity and phone app. The glass door would be awesome for displaying the teas. But yeah, expensive. Too expensive, the meat better taste good.
Well that’s pretty cool. But too expensive just to use as a “pumidor”. Looks like maybe not a lot of people have “pumidors” maybe that’s the reason why people aren’t posting pics.
Use a non working old fridge. Food safe lining and good seals to keep temp and moisture stable.
I also use an old square dorm fridge. For humidity I have a jar of water in the door supplemented by broken clay pottery pieces soaked in water placed inside.
Yes, I have a humidity and temperature gauge in there. I air it out every few days putting in or removing tea. I should add this is for aged tea only, cakes and tieguanyin. I have another cupboard for other types of tea. My gyokuro I keep in the regular refrigerator after opening the pouch. I also have small clay open pots that I use to air out samples I plan to drink soon.
I also have a fridge based pumidor. It is a large mini fridge and it holds about 26 cakes 15 tuochas etc. I have a cigar humidifier in the bottom for a constant humidity of between 68% and 69%. Mr Mopar gave me a lot of help on Teachat.com.
I have a china cabinet dedicated to puerh cakes. Use misc. vessels with water to add humidity and monitor the humidity level with a humidistat purchased on Amazon (see link below).
