Assam....Anyone?

Ok, I’ve been exploring Assam teas…but I’ve notices that there aren’t a lot of reviews for single estate assams going up… I’m sure most of us started drinking tea by beginning with the bags of generic tea from our childhood, which were primarily Assam and Kenyan, so I’m wondering why Assams aren’t better represented on Steepster. Here are my questions:

1. do you drink assams? Why or why not?

2. do you have a favorite assam?

I’ve recently gone from exploring new teas for me (Chinese/Taiwan black tea) to returning to Assams…..it feels lonely out here!

I love Assams but am not as well versed in them as others like Darjeelings as far as things like season and estate. I just know I like the deeply malty ones. :) I’ve been Yunnan obsessed for a few months now so my Assams have fallen by the wayside. I’ll get back to them sooner or later! I like them too much to not keep them around. :)

I adore Assam’s! My favourite is borsapori Assam from Capital Tea Ltd. (They’re Canadian, but they ship at a reasonable price to the states and offer 20g samples).

This is their Assam page https://www.capitaltea.com/shop/home.php?cat=1

I love Assam. I like it bold flavorful but at the same time I need to drink it without additions. You know I love Nahorhabi Full leaf by H&S. I tried it fr Upton but it wasn’t the same. Same harvest but too thin. I’ve noticed you are trying Teabox and I’m looking forward for your notes. I will be glad if you will discover some gem and will definitely try it;-)

Yes, I do love them. Unfortunately, I don’t often see them available at local stores. I have a few single estate teas, and a lot of black tea blends with Assams as a major component. It’s something I will be trying more of as I sip down my cupboard and start ordering online again!

I like Assam in general (it used to be the black tea I drank, besides Ceylon). Don’t really have a fave, and I’ve recently been totally won over by Chinese/ Taiwan black teas.

Ah! I love Assam!! I just started getting into black teas. I love the bold malty flavors. I love the strong ones with the combo of malt and honey.
The best I’ve tried so far is probably Assam #8 from Tealux. But I haven’t tried much, looking forward to trying more! ^^

Love Assams!!! My favorite is from Hattialli but I also do have a tendency for the chocolatey and malty ones.

Assam is a natural segue into the tea world for coffee drinkers—at least it was for me!

I have not been drinking much Assam lately, but that should change soon, as I subscribed to the Golden Tips club. Ten new teas every month. I’m looking forward to lots of new Assams and Darjeelings, both of which I appreciate very much—in very different ways…

I thought their price point was surprisingly low. I subscribed too.
