What's your favourite type of promotion?
I think the reason the discount wins out is because it lets you pick the tea you want, and applies to any amount of tea you buy. A bonus is usually picked by the company, so it might not be something you actually want, and often has a minimum order amount.
Lots of small free samples (like 3 with your order) especially if you get to pick them.
25% off and above, >>>*FREE SAMPLES*<<<< , Free or very cheap shipping.
Ability to buy small amounts. Sample sizes available.
I actually HATE “get something free with large order”. That means I have to spend more than I am comfortable spending to get anything special.
Percent off means I can spend what I’m comfortable spending and get something special.
So basically Percent off promotions are kinder to your less affluent customers. :)
Yeah, I agree. Having to spend a certain amount to get anything else just discourages me.
I love free samples, too, especially when you can pick them (or at least pick the type of tea). I have bought lots of DT after trying their free sample packs. And the DT 12-tea variety boxes, too (the caffeine-free themed one especially).
I had a company offer me 10% off $100 when all their items were $80. So really it’s only $10 off $160. That’s bogus.
I’m a total sucker for free shipping.
Shipping always feels to me like you’re paying for nothing. I know that’s not true, of course, and am very glad I can have tea delivered on my doorstep rather than hiking all the way over to China myself. Actually, shipping is often quite cheap when you cone to think of what it actually involves, but still..
Free or discounted shipping makes me very happy!
I think that would actually get me faster than a “percent off” sale since I usually buy just one or two things.
I can agree with this. When it says "Free shipping’ I feel there’s not a barrier to me buying what I wan because I can spend what I want on what I want and not have to worry about the extra fee for getting it to my door. :) So Free shipping (with a low threshold or no threshold) is a big way to get me. If the threshold is really low or non-existant, I may buy from you when I otherwise wasn’t even interested in buying at this time because I can just buy one or two things and be happy to try them instead of waiting for a big order.
It’s true, I ordered from Harney this week (first time) due to the free shipping.
Marzipan, me too! And it’s even two-day shipping! Whaaaaaat? They should really advertise that too. I didn’t even know until I saw the receipt.
Mine’s actually coming tomorrow, because I didn’t place my order until 5 PM, so they sent it out yesterday morning. Excited!
Free shipping is also my #1 criteria (outside of expected quality) for trying a tea because I have quite a lot of tea already. The very best is an offer of a few free samples with shipping included. Then next best is either free shipping on sample sizes or free samples with nominal (e.g., $2) shipping, which equates to the same thing.
As Mandy pointed out in the first comment, some people enjoy it when companies participate in traveling tea boxes as a “promotion” because it allows several people to share several samples. I’ll be starting a new box in August, so please PM me if you’d like to participate in it.
I agree with this! I am way more likely to buy a tea if I have tried it before and know that I like it—-even without a discount. This would be an excellent opportunity for a wide variety of tea lovers to discover the teas of yours that they will love:]
Yup yup. So far I’ve only gotten tea from the Persimmon Tree Tea Company (specifically for the upcoming TTB), but hopefully more companies will contribute before August :)
These TTBs are going to be so great for me (just received my first one this month). I have ordered so many teas that I didn’t care for that I wish I could have sampled.
