Replacement tea for Laoshan Black
Hey all!
I’m looking for a comparable tea to Laoshan Black from Verdant tea. I absolutely love this tea, but it’s sold out on the website and I would like to expand to other tea companies.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The nearest thing I have tried thus far is Bailin Gungfu Black Tea by Teavivre.
Cheers!
I think the new season is due soon, but I could also recommend this dealer on Aliexpress. This is currently the cheapest option.

The tea is very good and Peng comes from a multi generation tradition of tea production. If you contact Peng online you may be able to negotiate a product and shipping according to your needs and the tea is reviewed here on Steepster. http://steepster.com/companies/laoshan-tea-high-quality-goods-of-china
Other wise you might want to investigate some of the new style non smokey Lapsang Souchong’s as many of them are really chocolate rich in flavour.
Another option ( if you’re willing to use a taobao agent) is this tea

It is from a region adjacent to Laoshan and has many similar characteristics. They produce a Souchong and a jinjunmei, but the Souchong is closer to verdant tea.
This tea will probably be available later on Aliexpress but apparently they had a very hard spring in Shandong because of drought.
Another store with trying is

jteainternational.com is based on Eugene, OR, I think, they seem to specialize in darker aged teas
I have yet to find anything that compares to LB. I also love Bailin, but it’s different enough I keep both of them. I pre-ordered the spring LB though, and it should be shipping out any day, so perhaps there will be some available on their website.
Some of my other favourite straight blacks include Premium Taiwanese Assam, Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black – both from Butiki. If you’re open to oolong, the LB Chocolate Genmaicha from Verdant is a good substitute, though still different enough.
Good luck!
Thank’s everyone for your feedback! I am definitely going to check out these suggestions :)
