tea tasting

I’m having around 12 people over for a tea tasting this weekend. I need ideas for a light snack that won’t take away from the taste of the tea. I can’t find any good ideas on Google. I am doing a survey of all tea types.any suggestions would really help. Thank you.

It’s a hard one to suggest as there are so many teas and flavours to pair. Personally I would have some sort of light sponge cake to pair with the black teas and dark Oolong and some rice cracker biscuits (which can be found in almost any Asian style food shop) for your green Oolong, green teas and white teas. Rooibos is sweet and would match some fruit nicely.

Good luck for the tea tasting, hope you have a great time :)

Thank you. I got some Rice cakes that might also work that you reminded me of for the greens. I have to test them though.

Generally you want to match the intensity of the flavours, but contrast the flavour types. Sweet and savoury etc.
With something spicy like a chai, you may want to have a sweet cookie.
Assam goes really well with aged cheese (cheddar is what I tried) so perhaps cheese and crackers.
Mochi might go well with Sencha, but I know that dark chocolate pairs exceptionally well with Sencha (try it! I was shocked :P)

If you want to go with fruit, I found this list of pairings though I have no personal experience with most of these.

Oh and I found some fruity rooibos goes oddly well with peanut butter on toast, not sure if you can make anything out of that. I’m no expert :)
