Judging water temp by size of bubbles
Once I read a poem/saying (probably Chinese or Japanese) that describes the size of bubbles in determining water temp. I don’t know most of it but it had something like “bubbles the size of pearls for full boil” and different size bubbles for the other temps. Maybe grain of sand for 165-175 and size of rice for 190. Does anyone know the saying? I stupidly didn’t bookmark it.
I’ve seen/heard that on Asian cookshows before, but I’ve never found anything definitive and it’s usually in regards to cooking temp on frying oil. I know I’ve seen someone on Steepster talk about it before too.
I found this video for you though, personally I tend to look down on the water when boiling, so it wasn’t the most helpful for me.

I think in time you just know when the water seems to be right – watching the boil time on your kettle. If in doubt just invest in a cheap little temperature probe from the £ shop
I am getting ready to try my hand on some calligraphy (after my broken finger heals- one and a half weeks). I’ve done calligraphy before and found it quite soothing. I thought it would be a nice sentiment to work on writing out. I have a Breville so telling water temp is not the issue.
i don’t know what the saying is… but i found these:
