Where to start in the Tea World?

I second the Ingenuitea – great little device and a doddle to use.

How are you getting on with your tea discovery?

Hey! Actually I’m going slow :P.

I ordered the Tea Enthusiasts Handbook but I haven’t received it yet.

Anyway…I’ve looking the websites and all the suggestions that I’ve received, but I haven’t bought tea yet.

I’m going to London next week so I’m hopping to be able to buy some stuff there and “interact” with tea. In one of the comments they told me that is better to go to the stores and I liked the idea. I want to start by smelling it, feeling textures and all that stuff (“full experience” LOL!)

By the way… do you recommend me any particular store in London? :)

Yes this is my favourite shop in London :

http://www.theteahouseltd.com/ (their website)

I love Tea House – it’s not bad priced although the shop isn’t huge and all the teas have little sample jars that you can open and smell. The shop is arranged into Black Tea, Whites, Green, Herbal/Fruit teas and they have some brilliant stuff available in there.

http://www.postcardteas.com/site/ gets very good write ups, I’ve never been but I will do one day

http://www.teapalace.co.uk/ Visited last year but wasn’t impressed. Close to Tea House though

http://twinings.co.uk/our-stores Well worth a trip down The Strand to visit there shop. Blink and you will miss it but they have an immense selection of tea bags, temples, loose tea and at the back of the store there is a small museum and a tea bar where you can sample different loose tea or if there is anything you want to try they will brew you some. A great place to go in for a chat and to pass away an hour.

I’m back!! I spent in London a few days and I couldn’t go to the store you recommended, BUT I found a very nice store in Warwick “Golden Monkey Tea Co”. I had opportunity to smell many kinds of tea and they were very nice to me. I got 5 different kinds to start tasting. I’m so excited! :)

Brilliant. I’ve looked them up and they seem to sell some very nice teas too. What did you get?

I got Magic Dragon, Temple of Heaven Gunpowder, Organic English Breakfast, Vanilla Black and Cream Earl Grey. This morning I tried the first one, I love it! It is a blend of white and green with some fruits. I can’t wait to taste the others :D

One way to look at bagged teas is to look up the tea companies of bags available near you on steepster. Check out the tasting notes. Often you can get a better idea of what you might like. I’ve been surprised at things I keep in stock now. I used to have only loose leaf but I have fallen in love with Yerba Mate Chocolatte by Guayaki, Soothing Caramel Bedtime by Yogi, Vanilla Camoro by Harney and Sons, as well as a few others. I love my loose leaf but at times I just have to buy something (I just have to!! :D) but my budget is tight. For me the sachets or bags still have a place in my life.
