Notable Keemun Teas
For a very unique Keemun, try Joseph Wesley Keemun Confu. It is a Keemun cultivar grown in Fujian in the area where tanyangs are produced. It is like the best of both tanyang and keemun all rolled into one tea.
“For a very unique Keemun … It is like the best of both …”
Thanks, sounds intriguing! Recently, I’ve read several positive comments about Joseph Wesley Teas.

They do samples, you just have to buy 3. I think it might be worth emailing him. He seems very willing to work with you.
Thanks JenW – I’m going to try that, because that tea sounds really nice. Yesterday I ordered 8 or 9 different Keemun samples from Upton. I’ve never had any of their tea so I’m excited. But really, I need to stop.
I love Upton for really getting a feel for the different levels of Keemun. They probably contributed the most to my tea education. After all, drinking lots of tea at different price points shows you what is out there.
ZK67 and ZK98. I just noticed they have another Keemun Mao Feng I might have to try. I never really did get into their lower grades of Keemun beyond samples because I usually source them at Harney or Teavivre where I order more often. Forgot to add the ZK12!
At Harney, the Keemun Mao Feng and the English Breakfast and they used to stock a Hong Tao (the ZK12 from Upton is the same type). At Teavivre, I like both grade 1 and 2, and their Premium Hao Ya (but I have not ever ordered this one….I usually get it in free samples.) The fragrant one just did not cut it for me.
I felt the same way about the fragrant one from Teavivre. Sooooo when I went out to get the mail, my box from Upton is here. I’m impressed by the sample sizes and how quickly I got it. Its gonna be a kemmun weekend. I got samples of the following: Keemun Jade Pekoe (ZK83), Hong Tao (ZK12) , Hao-Ya “B” (ZK80), First Grade China Keemun (ZK11), Xiang Luo (ZK50), Keemun Fancy (ZK27), China Keemun Ji Hong (ZK22), and Hao-Ya “A”(ZK90). I may be in a keemun stupor by Sunday night.
TeaVivre currently has two Keemun Black teas on sale:
- Grade 1: http://www.teavivre.com/premium-keemun-black-tea/
- Grade 2: http://www.teavivre.com/keemun-black-tea/
My favorites so far are the Keemun Queen’s Hope by Lupicia (it’s a blend) and Keemun Mao Feng by Harney and Sons.
Has anyone tried one or more of the Keemun teas from International Tea Importers (ITI)? http://www.teavendor.com/

Has anyone tried any of the Keemun teas from Teanaga? They seem to offer a wide range and I’m thinking of placing an order shortly. Thought I would ask first. :)
I noticed the Anhui Keemun which is currently half price, only $20 for 150g plus free shipping. I tend to purchase small quantities or go cheap for first time orders. They also have a Mao Feng Keemun which sounds rather nice. They have rarer Keemuns for over $100 which would be in my dreams!
$20 for 150g (5.29 oz.) = $3.78/lb. + free shipping – Good deal!
“Special-Grade Keemun”? Year?
“I tend to purchase small quantities or go cheap for first time orders.” Always a good idea.

On the bottom right corner of the can it looks like 75g. Correct?
If yes, $15.92 for 75g (2.6 oz.) = $6.12/lb.
It looks like Steepster isn’t too familiar with TeaNaga: http://steepster.com/teas/teanaga
Yeah that is why I asked, those entries were entered by someone claiming to work for teanaga. Plus they rated the teas with top marks which I don’t think is allowed. Companies can’t rate their own teas can they?
Has anyone tried this Keemun?

I’ve only tried one keemun, which is the congou keemun from Butiki…. I don’t like smoky flavor in teas….does that mean that I won’t like keemun? :( Does anyone have any recommendations on where i might start if there are a few?
“I don’t like smoky flavor in teas….does that mean that I won’t like keemun?”
No, some Keemun are more smokey than others.
TeaVivre or Zen Tea Life are two good possibilities.

Did you taste smoke notes in our Keemun? I can’t say that I’ve ever noticed any smoke notes.
Butiki’s Keemun didn’t have smoke note in it, which is why I’ve ordered more… It’s wonderful! I was curious if smokiness was a hallmark of most keemuns and I’d just gotten lucky with my Butiki find, which was my first Keemun ever.
Glad to hear that you enjoy it! The vast majority of Keemuns I’ve tried have been smokey but there are still plenty that are not.
