nutty, creamy, and/or cocoay puer/oolong/white/green tea recs
Anyone have any recommendations? I’ve really liked Mandala’s special dark (though didn’t lend itself to a billion infusions) and milk oolong (billions of infusions) in the past and would like to explore more. Thanks :) (or if you have suggestions on how to search for notes like these, I’d appreciate it too)
Mandala’s Noble mark is pretty good, if you haven’t had that one already. It’s not as dark as special dark, but it is really creamy smooth.
Nature tea leaf’s lotus nut green might be to your liking too http://www.naturestealeaf.com/green-tea/lotus-nut.html
Steepster used to be able to sort via tea type, but it’s still glitchy (at least on my end). Maybe check out this pu’er thread http://steepster.com/discuss/5496-pu-erh-of-the-day-sheng-or-shou for some more recs.
I like Numi’s Chocolate Pu-Erh as well as DavidTeas Coffee Pu-Erh & Chocolate Rocket
Try searching for different phrases in the little ‘Find a tea…’ search box in the corner – it’ll pick up results that have the phrase in both of the name of the tea and the description. As an example I just put in ‘creamy oolong’ and it brought up a couple of pages of results for teas that fit that description, including several milk oolongs. (That’s actually one of my favorite ways to use Steepster, I’ve found great savory and spicy new teas that way!)
As for your more specific question, I’ve really enjoyed Lupicia’s Chocolate and Strawberry Pu-er and Almond Green by Sands of Thyme.
Lupicia has some interesting rich/sweet/dessert-y pu erh blends. I don’t know if you mind very green oolong bases for flavored oolongs, but if you don’t mind them or even like them I’m a fan of Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong. American Tea Room and Zen Tea also have coconut oolongs I really enjoy (and they resteep ok too). Teavivre has flavored as well as unflavored milk oolongs. Harney’s Tokyo is a green blend that reminds me of sesame and sticky rice desserts from Thai restaurants. For roasty qualities that can seem a bit nutty/rich, there’s always genmaicha and hojicha.
I love creamy/nutty teas! Do you do flavored teas? Or just straight ones…Some of my fave creamy/nutty flavored teas are-
Butiki’s Creamy Eggnog (green base)
American Tea Room’s Brioche (black base with almond flavor)
Butiki’s Maple Pecan Oolong
As far as straight teas, have you tried a good genmaicha? I think the toasty rice adds a nice nutty element! Also along the same lines Butiki’s Japanese Puerh has a nutty ricey element that is SUPER TASTY. Buckwheat tea is an awesome nutty, caffeine free option. The Soba Cha from Den’s tea is a good option there. Fengqing Dragon Pearl Black Tea from Teavivre is a tasty rich nutty straight black tea. Kind of like the black version of the Mandala Special Dark.
Thanks all for the suggestions, I put many on my to-drink list! I was mainly looking for a natural, nothing else added tea I could drink plain (or minimally sweetened). Something like when I first discovered milk oolong. I’m not too into smokey (like all the tuocha’s I’ve tried), or roasty teas for some reason at the moment (kind of make me feel nauseous). I’m pretty weird.
