Quite possibly the nicest Ceylon teas
If I rave about them its for good reason but I have to share how much I enjoyed my teas from www.teahills.co.uk
A superb supplier of tasty Sri Lankan teas with top notch service. Thanks to the kind person on here who recommended them

I have been looking at this company for a few weeks now. Their website is very informative, and the teas look interesting.
They are on my list of companies to try in the new year. Any suggestions re ordering from them?
Thanks.
Best wishes,

Email them, out of all the tea I bought I’ve only tried three of them but the Loolecondra is exquisite.
I just want to open everything I’ve bought and try it all but patience is the key.
Amba Estate
oh no. What was it like? I’ve tried some tea from Amba before (think I bought mine from Harney and Sons in the usa) and I really liked it.
Personal taste, I just didn’t enjoy it as much as the other teas.
huh. Which one was it? Green or Black? I had a look on their website and saw that Teahills now has a Amba green tea, which I haven’t tried.

On topic: any suggestions for a USA’er who generally doesn’t like Ceylon?
I quite liked the Amba ceylon, it reminded me of a Taiwanese black tea. I bought mine from Harney and Sons, but I’ve seen it popping up everywhere (think Tealet is selling it now…but at quite a dear price).
Ceylon’s have a pretty distinct taste, but one of the beauties to the tea, is that each of the regions tastes differently. Maybe try some greens and whites from Ceylon and see what you think of those? Ceylon blacks can often be a little too full on for me sometimes.
(Ceylon back in the 90’s decided to move towards the CTC production style. Which was a really stupid idea because then it meant that they were competing against countries like Kenya. Ceylon tea is all controlled by the government in auctions, so its kinda hard to find ‘great tea’. Rebecca at Monsoon Mountains is an expert in that. She does ship to the USA, just be prepared for a little higher cost (but she is honest, and I can honestly not think of someone who knows Sri Lanka better)
CTC teas generally taste really bitter to me unless I play around with them a LOT and I usually don’t have the patience for that. I’ve actually gotten some nice looseleaf out of Kenya though. I tend toward the Chinese blacks for my normal drinking. I have yet to meet a Darjeeling I can stand.
Have you tried Nilgiri before? I found them to be quite smooth, but then again I love Darjeelings so I might have different tastes.
I know that mainland China is going crazy for Sun Moon Lake, a black tea from Taiwan (also Ruby 18). Maybe try that if you like Chinese blacks.
From what I understand, the very taste that makes a Darjeeling taste like a Darjeeling is what I don’t like. I’ll check out the SML tea though, thanks.
I have exchanged e-mails with Rebecca, and can heartily second the fact that, as SFTGFOP said above, she is indeed a gem. If her teas are as good as her service, then they’ll be excellent!
