Lockdown...

I’m on lock-down! I am moving into a cooperative in September, and I’m not sure how that’s going to affect my tea drinking (no more microwave in my room, for one). Unfortunately, I’m also starting to find teas in my cabinet that I loveeeee and want to buy huge bags of, but I can’t, and it’s making me sad. A 1/2 pound of Coconut Pouchong and Dawn would make me so happy right now :) I did cave and buy a bag of Coconut Cream Pie from 52teas, though, and I’m about to put in an order for Harney and Sons for my mom, so I might throw in a few samples for myself…

Gah. I’m not very good at enforcing this, am I? :)

I usually have a policy of not buying new tea until I empty out tins to put new tea in, and after discovering sites online that’s gone out the window . I either need to drink lots of tea to transfer things into tins… or just buy more tins :x I have more than enough tea to last me a long time though so I really have to control myself and not buy something new!

Lock-down? What’s a lock down? lol! Things that make me cave: Discounts/sales (I subscribe to WAAAY too many e-newsletters for my own good lol!) for things I really want to try, are teas I will need later (buy now, save later), limited edition teas… cough… FRANK! hehe;) I try to buy MUST HAVES on sale which is why I’m really hoping Frank will have a Cinco De Mayo sale for Mayan Chocolate Chai on Manteas cuz I want to buy a full pound, but I will pretty much do anything I have to in order to keep staples in stock. The one thing that rarely makes me cave is Steepster Select oddly.

A Cinco De Mayo sale would be great! Although I just ordered 3 more pouches of 52teas. I really am hoping their Chai with Chocolate is similar to Kusmi’s Spicy Chocolate, or at least great tasting enough to not make me miss it. I can afford 52teas more than I can afford the 8.8oz tin of Spicy Chocolate.

Meghann M- Their Chai w/ Chocolate isn’t spicy. I have not had the chance to try Kusmi’s Spicy Chocolate yet, but I would almost bet Mayan Chocolate Chai would be a closer replacement since it actually is spicy.

Kusmi’s Spicy chocolate wasn’t spicy in a hot sense, not like cayenne spice. It was just a nice smooth, strong black tea with spices. The description for it on Kusmi’s site just states: A chinese black tea with chocolate and spices. Not too helpful in my search for what spices :(
I think I’ll start with Chocolate chai and work my way up to Mayan Chocolate. I just don’t know how I’ll like Mayan chocolate if I didn’t like Teavana’s Azteca fire all that much.

Well there’s no apple or strawberry in Mayan Chocolate Chai- that may make a difference.

I don’t really think it’s odd that you rarely cave for Steepster Select stuff. I’ve been on Steepster since January and have yet to buy a Select item. My reason is that I’m not really an impulse buyer; I need to feel confident that I’m going to like what I’m buying, do a little research. Maybe you’re not an impulse buyer either.

Oh yes- when it comes to tea deals I’m definitely an impulse buyer. I would probably cave a lot more if every select was a discount lol. I also have or have had a few of the items which helps.

Cofftea-could be, I’m sure I will order Mayan Chocolate Chai eventually, I’ve loved all of the teas I’ve purchased so far. PS-did you order the Mayan Chocolate Puerh? I’m looking forward to reading tasting notes on that one.

Erin-I haven’t caved for any steepster selects yet. They’ve got me interested in looking at new to me companies, but haven’t lead to any purchases for me either.

You bet I did!=D

Meghann- I have tried both Mayan Chai and Kusmi’s Spicy Chocolate. Those are 2 different teas all together but I love both. The Mayan oen is VERY spicy from the cayenne…But now I am curious about the Chocolate Chai….

If I start hogging to much pantry space then I will be on lockdown…also I try to limit the number of packages each month as my husband gets anxious with anything new in the house…..

Now that I have logged everything that is more than a serving, I have found that I have 81 teas!!! I’m going to challenge myself to not buy anything new until I reach 40 items in my cupboard. I will still swap, and if i run out of a particular type of tea (say I still have over 40 teas, but nothing caffeine free) I will be “allowed” to buy :)

I think that sounds like a reasonable plan!

How is everyone else doing on their lockdowns?

Mine isn’t going so well. But since I’ve decided I have to do some work on my house, it may start going better. :-)

I don’t do good at limiting myself in any way… I find that when I do try to do that, I end up sabotaging my efforts. I will do things to spite myself. LOL
