Pics time.

It was getting more than a bit unwieldly, so I dedicated the 50% of my cubicle I don’t use to being the tea-zone:

After my massive binge buying in September, that I am admitting to but not talking about, my hiatus lasted about 20 days. I placed a small order last night.
Hi my name is Dex, I’m a tea buying addict. I’ve now been on hiatus for ONE day.
I’m in a similar boat. My hiatus lasted 25 days. Placed an order with Verdant and Mandala yesterday. I may or may not have another small order planned for the future, but I’m trying to forget about that for now. I’ve even gone so far as to delete a huge majority of the teas on my shopping list to help resist the temptation to get new teas and I’m unsubscribing from any tea-related newsletters I find in my inbox.
We can do this! Hiatus periods seem to be getting a bit longer for all of us, I think!
I think so too! Just being aware that we are trying to slow down really helps. Also, the promise of big sales next month is a big one for me because I’d rather buy a bunch at once and get more for my money!
Can’t speak for anyone else, but the longer the hiatus the worse the binges. I would be better off ordering small amounts more often, but would rather try and not buy anything until I get my cupboard under control…
I LOVE Mandala, and I haven’t ordered from them in a few months. I think I’m avoiding them because there are so many I would like to get, trying to keep orders smaller than that.
Oh well, enjoy your purchases. I’m just taking it one day at a time.
Calling it a tea hiatus seems to work for me…it means I have to really think about the order I want to place..and then I seem to be much better at only ordering 2-6 teas instead of 20+ so I’ve fallen off the wagon, but always with super small “taster” orders or orders I’ve split with people…
For awhile it seemed like allowing myself one decent order per month, rotating through a different company each month, was helpful. But then I’d notice this other company had new teas, or a sale, & I went back into binge mode :/
So as of now I am absolutely, positively, completely on a no tea buying lock down. Really aside from groceries, gas to get to work, my medications & paying for bills, I’m not going to be buying anything even remotely considered a ‘luxury’. I just have to finish up a transaction with Tea Sipper and then have my turn with the ‘Another Traveling Tea Box’, then that’s it. So much for the Black Friday sales I was looking forward to. Lol.
The shortest version is that my cat Chibi had to go to the vet to get some surgery done and it turned out to be waaay more than I was anticipating. Total it cost about $1500, with another potentially unknown amount in a few weeks. She had a blocked salivary gland that they had to drain and put a tube/bypass/something in it so that it doesn’t keep building up. And she has a reoccurring condition where she gets (thankfully non-cancerous) growths in her mouth, which they found another one today way back on her tongue that they can’t operate on. So they put a steroid shot into it that’s worked in the past and she has to go back in 3 weeks for another one, which means more money that I don’t have.
Thankfully my parents were able to loan me the money to cover the surgery today, but they’re even tighter on money now because they already helped me with my car a few months ago. So I want to pay them back as soon as I can.
If anyone is interested/willing to help, I have a fundraiser going here at Giveforward.
(If this isn’t allowed, please let me know and I’ll remove the link.)
I’ll be selling some of the tea that I just don’t drink/have too much of on here so that’ll be something at least. I’m hoping to get something up in the next few days. So keep an eye out. I’m just not sure if a mystery box of teas, or just putting up what I have would be better? Anyone have any recommendations?
so sorry to hear that you’re having to deal with all that crap…it can’t be fun :(
Sil – No. Definitely not fun at all. But Chibi is doing better so far which does my spirits a world of good.
Wow! So sorry to hear about all this!
I’m coming back in from the streets of a long tea-lapse, rejoining this group, in an effort to maintain my tea-covery, at least for awhile.
Of course, I’m still allowed to drink teas with wild abandon, but the purchasing frenzies are on hold, at least for now. I just keep reminding myself, I have more tea in my house than I can probably drink in my lifetime now, there will always be more sales, & I need to cut back on my expenditures for a little while.
Ms. Theresa said that if me & little terri are good, she’ll allow a (slightly controlled) tea buying extravaganza over the Black Friday weekend. Today I’m celebrating 12 days ‘clean’. I haven’t purchased anything in the month of October.
woot woot! you can do it!
I AM struggling with wanting all Stacy’s new teas.
So am i…but there’s only a couple weeks left to go to get us to November. We can do it!
20 Days & I still haven’t bought anything!
I did purchase a couple samples this month, but that was with b-day funds, and therefor counts as a gift. There was also a free sampler.
I don’t even want to post pics of the mounds of tea I have :\ I’m on backlog until probably christmas and i drink at least 3 teas a day (and considering one is always a massively resteeped oolong.. ya.. much too much)
I know how you feel, especially since even most of the blacks I’ve bought recently re-steep a minimum of six times and I have several oolongs I haven’t even opened.
I have a full box of unopeneds :\ probably around 100 different 1 oz bags lol. many larger too.
Well, I think I’m done with buying teas for the next several months. I just ordered more of Verdant’s reserve teas and unless one of the reserve teas’ stock drops to the single digits, I think I’m done with buying teas for the rest of the year and then some.
I have finally gotten to the place where I buy tea about once a month. That seems to work for me, but only because the recesses of my cupboard are filled with my favorites. I do have a few things I am trying to drink up, but they are things I really like that I can’t get anymore. I am also making a conscious effort to drink the good tea instead of saving it so long it loses some of its flavor. I am trying to move toward simplicity as I have gotten beyond ‘must have all the teas, now!’ (Some are very happy to stay there, though!)
Wow that is so great everyone’s cupboards are packed!!! Mine is always almost empty! It has been 2 months since my last orders, and I am down to my last tiny tin of matcha. I am starting to stock up for the winter, making a couple of orders and then hopefully take another pause.
The good point about tea leaves is that they can be stored up to 2 years is it?? I am not sure. But the matcha has to go fast like no more than 3 months after opening, so I have to finish one can before opening another… can not stock up too much at a time so that is a good thing to keep enjoy it fresh!
Put in a new order a couple days ago, but that was with a coupon.
