What is your favorite Tea shop in NY or NJ?
Hi Everyone!
I have been wanting to do tea adventures (going to a new tea shop) I love smelling the teas in person! Anyone have any favorites? and what do you love about it? I’ve been to Argo, Ten Ren, Palais des Thes, and DavidsTea.
In NYC there’s Kusmi, Harney & Sons, Alice’s Teacup, Sanctuary T, and a whole ton in Chinatown. H&S has got to be my favorite, I love the atmosphere there so much.
Harney and Sons in Soho is fantastic! I’ve spent 2-3 hours there before, talking tea and taking samples. I do find the staff to be less friendly than at Davids, which is a shame.
I do agree that the staff at H&S is a bit less friendly… they’re not rude or anything, but everyone at Davids is just SO personable. Last time I was there I chatted for 10 minutes about making tea ice cream, and this was after I’d already purchased my tea!
Guess I am going to have to look up H&S! What is your favorite tea there?
For flavored teas it’s hard to go wrong! My personal favorites are Paris and Bangkok. The Lemony Gunpowder is great as an iced tea, and they have a lot of bagged blends as loose leaf (like Love Life).
Paris. Oh my goodness the Paris.
You can sample any one tea when you visit, but personally I always feel they oversteep the samples.
Radiance Tea and Books is definitely a must. Their teas are a little expensive but worth it. And the food is so delicious, I never want to leave :)
Davids Tea and Silver Tips Tea in Tarrytown New York.
Yes, worth a trip and then walking around town or checking out the Lyndenhurst Mansion grounds.
If you like shopping for tea in supermarkets – and like Indian Teas (Masala, Black, Assam, etc) try Oak Tree Road in Edison, New Jersey. They have some large supermarkets there that have inexpensive teas that are loose and bagged.

Now that Luh Yu Tea has closed and gone back to Taiwan, Fang Gourmet in Flushing is my go to place for any Chinese teas. http://fangtea.myshopify.com/ They will spend a lot of time letting you taste different teas and are incredibly knowledgeable

Oh. I thought from the title that it was about finding a fellow tea lover to date!
If anyone gets as far as Northport, Long Island there is Clipper Ship Tea Company. They are an excellent local tea store that has sold me some good tea. They keep telling me they will soon have their own website but for now you can find them on Facebook.
