Official *What did you get in the mail today?* Thread!!!
I got my Good Life Tea samples today! I’m keeping the envelope – the writing is pretty.
WHITE2 TEA!!!! Woo!!!!
Little Yellow Mark cake to split with Sarsy
New Amerykah 2 cakes (one for me, one for Sars)
I"m very excited about this box.
I got a few samples from Joy’s Teaspoon. Can’t wait to dig in!
Well, now I am excited…just checked out their website, found a bunch of interesting teas, and saw they have that “make your own sampler” package. Love it! Will order some today…
I just noticed a box in front of the front door this morning, which I guess means that it came last night and I didn’t notice (shocking!). Either that, or it was somehow delivered by tea fairies overnight and the hubby found it all on the doorstep when he left for work this morning.
Anyways, my free Teasenz samples arrived, y’all! Many thanks to Cameron B. to cluing me in to this sample offer. The sample envelopes are HUGE – there must be around 1 oz of each to try. I ended up getting:
- Daughter’s Ring Early Spring Green Tea
- Tai Ping Hou Kui
- Yunnan Biluochun
- Jin Jun Mei
- Lychee Black Tea
Today I went to a new tea store (at least new to me) and bought a bunch of tea. I bought Puerh Tea, Hei Cha, Black Tea, White Tea, Yellow Tea, and rooibos tea as well as a great new gaiwan. The store is called The Pleasures of Tea and they have a tea bar called the Infuse Tea Bar. They are located in West Sayville, NY.

I think Butiki sells the same gaiwan on their site – I have one that looks almost exactly like yours that I got from Butiki.
Does this tea company have a website?
This is their website. It is not complete however. They have teaware and tea in their store that hasn’t made it into the website.

I got the Lewis & Clarke TTB, and it is ridiculously huge. I guess this is what almost 6 pounds of tea looks like. :D
Yes, dear… :P It was a hot mess, so I sorted it. XD

Tea heaven. How long you allowed to hold the box?
Thank you for the pics, totally made my day!
You’re welcome, dearest. I think I’m allowed to keep it a week…? But I’d rather not keep it that long if I don’t need to. :)
I got my Mandala order with the Super Special Sheng Cake of Happiness and, finally, a pu’erh tray! My swap from AllanK is also in there! He sent some awesome stuff. This will keep me busy for awhile!!! Woooooo!!!!
Jealous. Now I’m thinking that if I had a yixing I would make more time for gongfu. What kind of logic is this? This is crazy person logic!
does anyone review this new cake i wonder… love the setup. What did you get as samples fr Mandala?
Enjoy!!!
I don’t really do a normal gongfu. I use my hybrid method, but it works for me. I like your crazy person logic, though, Uniquity. :)
Thanks Boychik! I got noble mark and torch festival green as my free samples. I also bought a little 2008 Nan Jian to try.
boychik – reviews are being posted now!
Stephanie – it’s a new sheng I got from Mandala. It’s on the website now :)
It’s not anything I thought up, so I can’t take credit. I think I probably first saw it on the Oolong Owl blog. But I just call it my hybrid method b/c I feel I get the best of gongfu and western.
I use a small gongfu teapot or gaiwan and either a large mug or sharing pitcher/tiny cup. I measure tea for gongfu style. I rinse if it’s a pu’erh and then start my steeps.
Let’s say it’s a sheng. I would rinse, then do a 10 second steep. Pour it in the mug/pitcher. Then immediately do 15. Pour that in. And just keep adding 5-10 sec per steep until the mug/pitcher is full.
Then instead of drinking tiny cups where I have to be near the kettle/teapot, I can take the big mug or pitcher/cup elsewhere and sit and enjoy my tea. I do it for pretty much all teas now, with a few exceptions. Works great. :)
I’ve considered adapting your hybrid method for Shou. I happen to like the first steep after the rinse best in many cases. The stronger 2nd and 3rds steeps are sometimes too much. I would try one rinse, drink the first steep, dump the 2nd steep and sometimes the third. When you brew the 2008 Song of Chi Tse try the first steep. I think you will find it good.
I got some Jin Jun Meis from the so adorable Cameron B!!!! And she put very cute stickers on it. Thank you precious girl!
I also got a Mandala box with a Year of the Dragon cake and some Big Red Robe and some samples.
And I got an assload of Wild Purple sheng from Yunnan Sourcing.
So I had a plethora of tea waiting for me when I got back from Boston (yay for awesome neighbors who keep my preciouses safe!)
Free samples from Good Life Tea: Angel Falls Mist, Belgian Chocolate Rooibos, and Earl Grey Cream
Free samples from Misty Peak: 2013 Autumn Puerh and 2012 Autumn Puerh. Nicholas generously offered these to me after reading about my weird reaction to the one sheng I’ve had in a caffeine discussion so that I could check to see if it was all sheng or just the particular one I tried. Thank you, Nicholas!
Green Terrace Teas (ordered during the 50% off sale, woot!): 10g samples of Shan Lin Xi Premium High Mountain Oolong, Premium Jin Xuan Milk Oolong, Li Shan High Mountain Oolong, Gui Fei Oolong, Four Seasons Spring Oolong, Eastern Beauty Oolong, Ali Shan High Mountain Oolong, Li Shan Black Tea, and Honey Black Tea
Butiki order: Boracay Breeze, Flowery Pineapple Oolong, and I finally got more White Rhino, HUZZAH!
My glass gongfu teapot’s big sister finally came to live with me, so now I’m all set up for tea parties! (My original is on the right and is 100mL, the new addition is on the left and is 250mL)

Also, I brought back Pouchong Oolong and Tie Kwan Yin from David’s Tea and Darjeeling Silvertips from Tealuxe in Boston.
So, yeah, it was a pretty epic tea week for me. Guess who’s having an awesome weekend! (hint, it’s me)
I also just happened to be at Verdant this afternoon and an ounce of Hand Picked Spring TGY fell right into a pouch I was holding, so I bought it. It was the weirdest thing ;-)
I’d suggest an intervention, but I have no room to talk. :p
I hope you love all your wonderful teas!!!! :)
