Tea flavored chocolates
OK, we’ve had some thread about chocolate flavored tea… now it’s time for one about chocolates with tea in them.
If you’ve tried some, what are your favorites? If you’re just dreaming about hitting the lottery and buying a whole bunch, what are you drooling over? If you’ve made your own, what worked/didn’t? Please share! Retail links or recipe sites/food blogs are all fair game.
Here’s the company that caught my eye and inspired me to start this thread:

“Matcha Chocolat, founded in 2009, is a new company based in Oxfordshire dedicated to making fresh, handmade chocolates in a range of innovative, tea inspired flavours. Alongside our unique Tea Chocolates, Matcha Chocolat offers some of the finest quality teas in order to provide the perfect confluence of tea and chocolate.”
Looks like they only ship within the UK…? Also despite the name, they have all kinds of tea blended in their chocolates, not just matcha (I only saw two with matcha, actually). I’d love to try the genmaicha dark chocolate, Keemun mango, and Midnight Peony with dark chocolate liqueur…
I’m coveting these

ohh, those look neat! I like the uneven pattern – I guess it’s for breaking off pieces? Also that’s the first rooibos/chocolate combo I’ve seen. How interesting!
I’m planning to drop by Vosges (in Chicago) to try the Matcha and 45% milk chocolate….mmmm
Ah, Vosges… there’s a fancy grocery store near me that sells a number of their bars – but not the ones I want! (Matcha, Creole, Black Pearl). I’ve been tempted many times to place an order online but can never justify the cost. One day…
Well…I bought the Matcha & Chocolate from Vosges today… but I had my teeth whitened, so I can’t partake just yet. The anticipation is killing me ;0)
I quite liked the Dolfin chocolates that are often served in miniature along side tea.

I think there is room for more in the market though… very excited to try this Vosges Matcha chocolate that you lots are raving about
Schoc chocolates make my all time favourite tea chocolate – Earl Grey in dark chocolate: http://www.schoc.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_10&products_id=31
And after visiting their website, I am going to have to go and visit them instore to satisfy my tea chocolate craving…

I just tried the Vosges matcha chocolate. At first I was disappointed that it is milk chocolate, as I prefer dark. However, I think it was the right choice. The grassy sweetness of the matcha melds seamlessy into the milky smoothness of the chocolate. The only ingredients are milk chocolate and matcha, which makes for a very pure and clean taste. The texture is soft and smooth, not hard or plasticy like some chocolates can be. I think that dark chocolate may have either competed with, or overpowered the matcha too much.
I used to occasionally get meiji matcha chocolate bars when I went to convenience stores in Japan, and they were pretty good for a cheap chocolate bar ;)

I have tried the matcha almonds from Tavalon. They are chocolate covered almonds with a coating of matcha. My biggest complaint about them is that they aren’t as coated with matcha as the photo would lead one to believe. But they are very tasty. The key to tasting these is that you should let it set on your tongue for a few moments and allow the matcha to sort of dissolve on the palate before biting into the candy. YUM!
