I’m reading “The Book of Tea” by Okakura Kakuzō. I was told to read it for class, and I fell in love it with it. It has great insight into the mindset of making tea, and it is an easy read.
Rashi’s Daughter
and My Husband’s Secret
Finished:
The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. (Mostly liked Azoth/Kylar, but detested Durzo Blint.Debating whether I want to bother to push through the other 2 books in the trilogy.
DNF:
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I dnf’d it because I could not get into it. The lead character was so dreary and self defeating, made me want to put a gun to my head.
Currently reading:
London By Edward Rutherford
The Genius Plague by David Walton
Will be starting, as soon as I finish the 2 above:
The Everything Box by Richard Kadrey (If your looking for stuff similar to Dresden Files, many Kadrey’s work would work.)
Foundation:The History of England from it’s earliest beginnings to the tudors. By Peter Ackroyd
How is The Genius Plague? I’ve heard good things.
It’s a bit rough going, I’ve put it aside for a while to concentrate on other books (I am a bit ADD, and get distracted somewhat easily….ooo Shiny! lol.) But so far in my reading of the book is that it’s shaping up to be a solid thriller, and the story is kind of reminding me of a Stephen King short story, The End of the Whole Mess. Though I really hope that Genius Plague doesn’t end the same way. Though I could be wrong, I think this book would be perfect for Michael Crichton and Robin Cook fans.
London is in my TBRWIHTFABR (to be read when I have time for a binge read) stack.
Finally got around to finishing Genius Plague, it was pretty good, but somewhat predictable.
London was terrific! If you like family sagas that span several centuries, then you’d probably like London. I’ll hopefully be getting to Sarum in the next few weeks.
On my third Murakami novel, a collection of short stories called Men Without Women. Captivating writing as always..
When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron.
I’ve been reading myself around the world the last year or so. Just finished Affections by Rodrigo Hasbún (Bolivia) and am now reading Twilight of the Eastern Gods by Ismail Kadare (Albania). Oh yeah, and also reading Voices of Marrakesh by Elias Canetti for my fine press blog.
At the moment I am reading Ancient Caravans & Urban Chic by Jinghong Zhang. I already watch her documentary version but now I wanted to dig deeper with her book.
“The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear” by Walter Moers is my favourite book of all time and I highly recommend the author.
Currently I am reading the first book of the Wildwood Chronicles by Colin Meloy.
Just finished Beneath the Lion’s Gaze by Maaza Mengiste. Chilling fiction during the Ethiopian revolution of 1974. When will Africa have peace?
On a tea related note, I found a book by a Malawi (one of the two African nations I currently get tea from…) author to add to my TBR pile.
Curiosity got the better of me and I picked up Fire and Fury. I’m reading it with a mixture of fascination and horror…like a train wreck you can’t look away from.
I can’t bring myself to do it. My blood pressure thanks me.
