Tea & Books - What are you reading?
Started Emma Newman’s Planetfall a few days ago. Good so far, but can’t read it before bed—there’s enough tension in the story and the main character that I end up getting tense too.
Ha! I just started reading Dickens’ Cricket on the Heart for a Fine Press Christmas book review. The first line? A tea reference:
“The kettle began it.”
I use a Pima Digital Pro most of the time so I can control temperature precisely. But my more traditinal, and definitely more Dickensian, kettle is a cast iron and blue enamel Staub that I love…
I’m reading Tea Sommelier (Gabrielle Lombardi). I have a ton of tea books to read and even more to learn!
Just in case anyone is interested, there are author inspired blends on Etsy, by Literary Tea Co. So far, Shakespeare is my favorite! Poe is good, you just have to get passed the skullcap in the first sip.
finally finished “something wicked this way comes”.. yes im a slow and at times an inconsistent reader.. but this book i struggled to get through.
the sentences where like lines out of a poem. with all the shiney adjectives, and trains of thought that i guess i could not comprehend, i struggled. seems bradbury is not for everyone.
on a positive note, heres an excerpt from the book that i liked:
“miss foley had first noticed, some years ago, that her house was crowded with bright shadows of herself. best, then, to ignore the cold sheets of december ice in the hall, above the bureaus, in the bath. best skate the thin ice, lightly. paused, the weight of your attention might crack the shell. plunged through the crust, you might drown in depths so cold, so remote, that all the past lay carved in tombstone marbles there. ice water would syringe your veins. transfixed at the mirror sill, you would stand forever, unable to lift your gaze from the proofs of time.”
i didnt drink any tea with this book. i did not read this book at home once. with coffee, yes, at times.
I just finished The Lost Gate by Orson Scott Card. I loved it and was hooked early on. Anyone else read this book? I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
I read Ender’s Game and really enjoyed it, but did’t think to pick up any of his other books. I will have to go back and look at them again.
I have not read Ender’s Game, despite it being on my radar. But now it does make me want to go and read it. Definitely check out The Lost Gate. It is more fantasy than science fiction.
I’ve been re-reading the entire Game of Thrones series. I finished book 3 at the end of Sept, then took a break to re-read The Shining & Doctor Sleep (the sequel to the Shining) in October (because Oct is Stephen King month!), and actually right now I’m not allowed to read again until xmas day, because I have mountains of music to work on between now and then. The last 3 weeks have been dedicated to the Nutcracker (there were 3 performances this weekend, with fully staged ballet). On xmas day, or shortly after that, I’ll be done with all my gigs, and then I’ll start of GOT book 4 :)
Sounds good! It’s hard to not read, it’s such a wonderful addiction, but when I start Jonesing, I will feel better knowing you’ve got me covered :)
I apparently can’t just read one book at a time so I’m currently working on both The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
I liked The Night Circus, but it’s been a few years. Gaiman is an author I want to love and I like his stories but get bogged down with his writing. I think my problem was starting with American Gods. A great idea that was too dragged out for me. (I love reading about gods).
