What is your favorite smoky flavored tea? Need suggestions.
I love the Lapsang from David’s, and the gunpowder from Adagio (and that’s less than $2/oz!) Also, the Moroccan Mint from Teavana, although the gunpowder in that is less smoky than the gunpowder from Adagio.
Lapsang Souchong from Happy Luckys Tea House, and Lion and Lamb (same shop) .
Assam from Butiki Tea and Moraccan Mint Gunpowder also from Butiki.
Foojoy China Classic Min-nan Oolong (Wulong) Tea, is my all favorite smoky flavored tea. I am not sure if this is what is meant when using term flavored (as in something added)when not. Most roasted/smoky Oolong would be most pleasing.
Upton’s Lapsang Souchong Black Dragon is a lightly smoky tea that is on the sweeter side of things.
The first smoky teas I tried were blends from 52teas – Mayan Chocolate Chai and Smoky Chocolate. Although I now realize they are actually quite light on the smoke flavour compared to a straight lapsang souchong, I found them great as an introduction and to allow me to get used to the flavour. You may not need that though.
Thank you all so much for your continued suggestions. I’m definitely going to try to taste all of these teas and see which ones I like best. I love myself a smoky tea. Any smoky oolong tea recommendations? I’m seeing a lot of Lapsang Souchong which is a black tea if I’m not mistaken. I love myself some oolong tea so it would be a perfect fit to find a smoky one.
Keemun Mao Fengs have a nice smokey flavor that isn’t really strong like Lapsang’s.
Smokey Houjicha from Obubu Tea is very nice, too.
I like Teavivre’s Lapsang Souchong. I got 3 good steeps-didn’t try for more. The smokiness does not drown out the taste of the tea and there is no bitterness. I got it as part of one of their very reasonably priced tea samplers with 5 types of black tea. The samples are generous. I had been drinking their Bailin Gongfu which I love, and wanted to try some more types of black tea-wasn’t sure I would like a smoky tea, but it was very good. Highly recommend getting this sampler if you’re interested in trying some different black teas, but you can also get samples of individual teas too.
I agree with the opinions here, Lapsang Souchong has strong smoky flavor, so some people don’t like this tea, because they cannot stand its smoky flavor. Compared with Lapsang Souchong, Keemun black teas have a light smoky flavor. Here I highly recommend you try Keemun Fragrant Black Tea. This tea is so smooth, also has unique Keemun fragrant, combined with a slightly smoky flavor.
If you are looking for a smokey flavored green tea, I strongly recommend Kepala Djenggot green tea. Great Indonesian taste!
