Would be quite nice, although I highly doubt I’d be able to find anyone around :)
I would like this too! Of course there should be an option that user can click to ALLOW / DISABLE this function – if they don’t WANT to be found by location.
Aye, that’s a very good idea. I tend to set all my pages to maximum privacy. Spam and issues with people in my past would definitely rear up to bite me in the butt if I didn’t.
That would be fairly cool, but yeah, the security complexities might be enough to nix that idea. However, I think your location is an optional thing when you sign up. So, it might be good enough to just post a little warning that says “HEY! PEOPLE WILL KNOW WHERE YOU ARE”.
… you know, I barely remember signing up. This could already be in place.
Think of me stalking you! Are you getting nauseated yet?!
LOL! I’d be okay with you stalking. Since you are pretty keen on cooking, I’d hang out in the kitchen, asking questions like are you hungry yet? That way I’d end up with an excellent meal! ;)
It would be cool. Because I have so many friends I’ve met through tea that live 4+ hours away, and I’d totally road trip to go see them… if I had a car. It’d be nice to share the joy of tea with someone else… my roommate tolerates it, but I think she thinks it’s kind of odd :)
I would love for it to be a search parameter, but only if someone puts in their location. As it stands it’s seems members can be as specific or not specific with that. Listing no location, just their country, region, state/province, area, nearest big city or their actual town. I’m probably odd to list my street but it’s a literary/pop cultural reference and the fact that we do indeed drink Baker Street Afternoon Blend in this house. If I was concerned about stalking, I wouldn’t use my real name, because I’m the only one and Berea is such a small town anyway. But yes, I would like the option to search and connect with members in my area. I would also be open to meet ups, but that would probably have to be organized individually.
Meet ups would be cool. What the Kind Life blog did was set up a board in the forums that was meant for folks to post a thread with their location as the subject. And the idea was to have kind life users also in the same location, respond to that thread creating a locals virtual “hangout”, if you well.
Maybe I’ll start one for my area and see if it catches on. I just want to know who is drinking near me. There are awesome tea shops here and too many teas to try, so connecting with someone in the same area could help narrow down the search for some really awesome teas.
UPDATE:
And with one quick forum search for my location, I see meet ups and groups have already formed. Very cool.
I can see why it’s not integrated into the site because of security issues. Not enough revenue on this site to be able to build such a thing and keep it secure enough that wouldn’t cause problems.
