Tea in London!
Hey friends:
I am going to London for a week in the beginning of February as a belated Honeymoon. Where do you suggest we visit for great tea! (Either to sit for a tea or to buy tea!) Also, because I trust your opinions anywhere else we should visit!
Thanks,
Ellyn
When I was in London in the spring, my favourite was Postcard Teas. http://www.postcardteas.com/
And, as cteresa told me (http://steepster.com/discuss/1574-london-tea-must-sees), Yumchaa was great for really well-priced and tasty flavoured teas. There are a couple other ideas in that thread, but these were my faves.
Oh, and I had awesome afternoon teas at Bea’s of Bloomsbury and the Crusting Pipe in Covent Garden. I did a lot of research on affordable afternoon teas and was totally blown away by both if you’re interested in that. Bea’s served Jing teas and was really lovely.
Twinings Tea has a 300 year history in London, including several tea tasting bars and shops. Their main store and museum is at 216 Strand: http://www.twinings.co.uk/about-twinings/our-stores
The Court Restaurant, at the British Museum has a nice traditional Afternoon Tea as well.
Thank you for all the info and the previous threads. I searched for London but for some reason did not see it!
When I was in London earlier this spring I tried to stop by a lot of tea shops, not really for afternoon tea, more for purchasing tea. I went to…
The Tea House (Covent Garden) – lots of interesting teas, all pre-packaged in 100g bags but with some out for you to sniff.
Tea Palace (Covent Garden) – tons of awesome blends, usually a few teas brewed to taste in-store, and they sell small sample tins of any tea you want. Highly recommended!
teapod (Covent Garden) – small tea shop with a few blends, I went there and had pot of tea and a snack in the afternoon and it was very enjoyable.
TeaSmith (Spitalfields) – at the time I didn’t really appreciate this place because it sells almost exclusively unflavored teas, but now I would enjoy it more I think! They also have a tasting bar.
In a similar vein I didn’t go to Postcard Teas at the time, but now I definitely would!
I put up more detailed reviews for each of these places under the “Places” tab that you can read also. Have a great time!
