Teapot of course. Gaiwan is reserved for gongfu brewing I think. Teapot is more convenient and down to earth.

Many times I also use teapot, as you say, more convenient.
But the gaiwan brewing, the tea taste is more better, I think. :)

My Pyrex 1qt measuring cup is a perfectly adequate vessel for most things. Teapots/strainers for everything else.
