Has Cranberry Autumn by Harney and Sons changed?
I was placing an order during their big sale, and pulled up Cranberry Autumn which has formerly been a fall and winter staple here. The ingredient list now has hibiscus. I do not care for hibiscus and I think I would have noticed it before. The description here on steepster just says it is black tea with cranberry and orange flavors. Has they ruined an old favorite by adding the dreaded hibby? Or did I just miss that it was there all along?
Here is an ingredient list for Harney and Sons Cranberry Autumn that I located:
black tea, cranberries, orange peel, natural orange oil, artificial cranberry flavor.
No hibiscus is listed. I found the screenshot of this ingredients list on Amazon. This tells me that at some point in time hibiscus was not included in the ingredients. Since you’re pretty sure it was not included in the past, I suspect they modified the recipe.
You’re quite sure you were looking at Cranberry Autumn, right?
Yes, and I just received a message from the company saying that is has always had hibiscus, which surprises me because I am not a big fan of hibiscus and I like Cranberry Autumn.
They claim it always had hibiscus, so one of the following must be true:
1. The one I saw on Amazon is an extremely new formulation
2. The one I saw on Amazon includes a phony but very convincing screenshot of the ingredients list
3. It has always had hibiscus but it was just not listed
4. Harney and Sons doesn’t know what they are talking about
I found an ingredients list for this tea on another tea site that matched the photo of the ingredients label I saw on Amazon. So, I’m going to go with #3 or #4.
Taste their “it’s always been like this” new recipe and let us know what you think.
