Chinese tea in Singapore?

I would say to go to Tea Chapter. They have a teahouse upstairs and we had the tasting option – 6 different teas and a chap called Stan-Lee talking us through it. All very interesting and entertaining. They have a shop downstairs, with a nice selection of tea and Yixing teaware. Not the cheapest shop but good quality.

I would love to be on a trip like this. Got anyone carrying those bags around for you?

I’ve been to Singapore a number of times, more than a half dozen, but I’ve never done much tea shopping there. Even for places we visit where tea is more of a central theme, like Taiwan and Japan, it’s a struggle to fit in tea as a priority. I went there more often more than five years ago when I was less hooked on tea, and haven’t visited there for nearly three years now.

I would try out pu erhs and dark teas. The temperature is rather humid there, wondering how much that affects the aging and the resulting taste.

I am heading to Singapore in May! Tea Chapter and Yixing Xuan Teahouse are on my list of places to visit; I similarly have a few days free. Anyone have any thoughts after coming back from Singapore?

I am going to Thailand on the same trip, and am looking at visiting Araksa tea farm in the northern part of the country.

I live in Bangkok so if looking around here for tea is of interest I can mention some places. I don’t get out to visit farms and such in the North at all, oddly enough. I haven’t even been to the North in the past few years and my wife isn’t into tea themed travel, so I do family oriented vacations instead.

I am not going to make it to Bangkok this time, just Chiang Mai. We didn’t pick this city just to go to the tea farm, but it’s a nice bonus!

Monsoon is a cafe in Chiang Mai that sells forest-friendly tea there, wild-grown locally produced versions. I have mixed feelings about combining real sustainability issues with marketing spin but it’s definitely a real issue, and although the pricing of the tea might be considered a little aggressive a white tea version I tried was unique and very pleasant, and not everything is about maximizing value. They sell food too, which could work out well, combining a need to catch a meal anyway with tea interest. They sell commercially packaged miang too, vinegar cured tea paste (I think it is); that may be of interest. The owner is a nice guy, Kenneth.

There are only lots of bubble tea here in singapore.
