Favorite keemun?

Anyone have a favorite keemun available in the US?

Also, does anyone know what time of year keemuns usually arrive? I believe the leaves are picked in April, but I’m unsure how long before a harvest shows up on the market.

Mostly out of curiosity I checked Teavivre, an excellent store in China for teas. But they list the harvest date of their Keemuns as April 2016. You could always contact them and ask when the new crop comes in.

There should also be a time delay between when the tea is harvested and when it is ready for sale. I don’t know how long.

Hi FinestTippy, would you please let me know which keemun tea you’re interested in?

Any. I’m seeking recommendations.

Except for Keemun Hao Ya, I also recommend you try Keemun Mao Feng or Keemun Aromatic Snail. Both of them have very delicious taste.

I enjoy teasource’s grand Keemun. They have a higher grade Keemun Hao Ya, but it comes across as smokey to me and that’s one thing I cannot tolerate.

Does the harvest date matter? Other than green teas which need to be fresh, I thought it would be mostly irrelevant for other tea types. I would expect something like Keemun to taste the same years after harvest.

An authority tells me that keemun hao ya teas are time sensitive, but not other grades. I just figured that if new keemuns would hit the market any week now, that I’d wait. I have plenty, and I mean plenty, of teas in my cupboard to sipdown first.

I’m not an authority, but have noticed deterioration in Hao Ya that I kept too long.

I really enjoy Hao Ya, but my favorites are Mao Feng. Frankly, though, I love even the cheapest Keemun. They’re all good – love the smoke!

I guess I need to try more Keemun, I’ve only bought it once (Hao Ya), and found it so-so, was not impressed…

You have to like smoke to like keemun. It’s not close to something like Lapsang Souchong, but you will notice the smoke.
