What to do with old tea tins? Sell/goodwill or trash?
Hello everyone! I previously worked for a few years at a very large tea store and have amassed a large quantity of decorative, shaped, and amazing tea tins. This normally would not be a problem except for the fact that I am moving out of the country soon so I can no longer keep most of them. I wonder if any one has any experience with what to do with tea tins. Should I sell them? (if so where?) should I just take them to goodwill?
Most are from Teavana, but I have some from davids teas, samovar, and adagio as well.
Goodwill or a thrift store may find a home for them. Folks like to use decorative tins for storage of all kinds of things other than tea. Sometimes people use them for vases or planters. You might try putting them on Craigslist or Ebay for a small fee and see if any crafters or gardeners want them. I know someone who is collecting Harney tins for her wedding so folks might well be interested. Just depends on how much trouble you want to go to. :)
You could also try listing them here. I might be interested in a few myself. Also, Etsy could be a good place to post them as well.
As long as the tins have not had very strongly flavored teas in them you could probably list a bunch on here. Post photos. Someone may be interested.
You could probably sell some here with pictures. You can remove some odor with newspaper if that can help a bit.
Also you can match the tea tin to the tea that was stored in it. If it had lapsang souchong for example you could store lapsang souchong in the tin without worrying about it picking up the strong aroma.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Is there a specific spot on the site for me to sell tins? I see the swap spot but nothing specifically for selling. (though I may be tempted to trade some tins for some decent pure black/pu-erh tea to last me till July) I will post some pictures up here for any one interested.
