Thanks for the heads up, I have been in the mood for some dancong so I’m really excited for this to show up!

I am a newer drinker to Dan Congs than to other loose leaf tea; however, I thought they were utterly fantastic. They are at least as good as Bitterleaf Tea’s top shelf Dan Cong, and I drank a session’s worth every day until I ran out, which is a rarity for me.

If you are asking about the comparison Paul wanted the club to do, it taught me that I perceive the flavors of tea better in the morning, and will almost always prefer a tea I drink then to later in the day.

June was a 50g raw gushu cake. :). Haven’t tried it yet though.

Not yet. I often get club boxes late so I didn’t think anything of it until I found out August came today and July still hadn’t. I will try to contact him this weekend.

My delivery times from China for ePacket have varied from 5 days to 34 days… so that may be a contributing factor.

You guys have any trouble I have a hotline I can use if you ever need it.

If you use the “Contact Us” link from the website, Paul should be able to give you a tracking number. I’ve had periodic issues with excessive delays at customs—especially on the Tea Club shipments—since December or so.

I’ve got samples from a year ago that I still haven’t finished. The only problem I have with that, is sometimes I retry a sample and find out I like it a lot now but find the tea is sold out. ;)

September 2017 Tea Club

For our September tea club we have sent a mixed group of black and white teas, spanning a couple of provinces. The teas range from fragrant to soft, light to heavy. Not everyone will have the same favorite tea from this club, but the diversity should be fun for comparisons.

Auburn Black Tea – 50g – We have had this tea for a few months and it has finally settled down a bit from its early spring processing. A punchy, aromatic black tea is from a slightly out of the way area of central Fujian. The auburn black tea is made from high altitude material and processed with fragrance at the forefront. This will be the most jammy, fragrant tea of the group. It kicks around a bit. If you’re looking for a calming, warm cup, aim for the Turtle Dove before jumping on this tea. Use on mornings when you need a jump-start.

Jinggu White Tea Buds – 25g – Early spring tea buds from Jinggu, located Yunnan province. This tea is nearly all buds, thick and hairy, and should serve as a contrast to the Turtle Dove, which includes all leaf sizes, not only buds, and is sun dried using large leaf varietal tea. Just a kind reminder about all of the wonderful tariations of tea; even with Yunnan whites, there is an astounding variety of different teas. 2017 Turtle Dove – 7-8g Mini Cakes – These are identical material to our 200g Turtle Dove white tea brick. Made from Yunnan large leaf varietal material, this materials has a thick body and a lot of endurance. The tea has a minimalist natural processing, picked and sun dried, without any additional interference. This is one of our favorite daily teas, and it has been tested for and passed 440 of the EU MRL pesticide/herbicide regulations, making it one of the cleanest white teas we have seen available. Its built to age, so we are including a discount for club members who want to drop the hammer on aging bricks.

And one quick note about the mini-cake shape, it took a while to make the process to create this shape of tea and the cost of processing is a bit pricey, but we are really happy with the results. The tea opens up faster and more easily than a traditional dragon ball, but is equally easy to carry and drink on the go. We hope you like them!

Auburn black is really good.

I didn’t think that the mini cake had any advantage over the dragon ball shape that I could notice. It didn’t seem to open up faster and it still required some manual separation to full come apart.

Anyone getting a Darjeeling top note from Auburn black? I brewed a pot at 90C for about 3 minutes and I had to double check which tea I put in.

I agree, it has a floral Darjeeling thing going on but it is fuller tasting than any Darjeeling I have ever had. Darjeeling always leaves me feeling like it is leeching something from me.

I really do not have a lot of experience with white teas. Mainly just the Old Whitey that was sent out as part of the tea club last year, and a partial cake of Hot Brandy that I bought off someone on Reddit who did not want it anymore. Both are OK, but I really don’t get it.

The two in this year’s tea club are different. I found the buds to be way too subtle and the Turtle Dove to be too astringent. I only brewed each once, though, and need to go back and play with amounts and water temperature. Would love to know what everyone else is doing, especially how they are going about opening the Turtle Dove.
