Donald Trump and Chinese Tea
I am curious about the subject of Donald Trump wanting to impose taxes on products coming in from China because we have such a trade imbalance with them. Does anyone on here fear we will have to start paying more for teas imported from China? I am specifically curious about what Chiniese tea sellers think about this prospect. Will Donald Trump start a trade war with China over the admittedly large trade imbalance.
There’s something potentially coming anyway that has nothing to do with Trump. The FDA is set to impose heavier costs and burdensome regs on imported things like tea by 2019. It will make it more difficult for small farmers to get their products here.

Interesting read. Was not aware these new FDA regulations were in the works. Seems like large US tea companies will be better able to absorb the added overhead than small ones.
Not good for tea drinkers like us!!!!! Not good at all! :-( Tea has risen quite significantly over the last several years, without more regs. This will only make it more expensive to purchase quality leaf teas!
Tea should be exempt from this because you can’t really get Oolongs and greens from many other places. Besides, China tea imports will not affect the production & sale of US produced tea. That’s my point-what US produced tea!! There is a very small market for US produced tea, and a tariff on China teas will not really affect the small scale production here! It’s maddening!!
I think the fear is that Trump will put a general tariff on all things coming from China. If this happens I suppose I will try direct ordering some Indian teas. I already have enough puerh to last a lifetime.
I’ve wondered about this myself. Thankfully I have enough tea to endure this administration’s policies. Surely the man realizes his businesses manufacture many Trump items in China?
Tea may be the least of our worries if he imposes tarrifs on Chinese made goods. China is our largest trading partner and everything from smartphones to jeans will cost more.
I’ve read that prices may go up around 10% but if China slaps retaliatory tarrifs it could go up higher. After further thought, I don’t think it will apply to orders sent it by post. USPS is already seriously struggling under the weight of all the mail sent into the US from the Far East. It COULD be done, but it would require a bunch more Customs Agents working at airmail centers and the mail would probably get even slower!
