Another tea storage thread.... lightly covered crock for ripe puer?

I have a vintage jam pot that has no lid that I’d like to use to store some tea. I feel like I have seen images of people using crocks with just fabric over the top for tea storage. I am assuming that you would only do that with puer, right? If I put some ripe puer in my pot and close it up with string tied around some fabric and left it at room temperature, do you guys think that would be ok? Not for long-term storage but for near-term drinking?

Thank you!!

The crock would probably work for storage of ripe puerh if all of the aroma from the jam is gone. Otherwise it will flavor your puerh. A number of people on here use crocks for puerh storage. I have myself thought about buying a couple big ones that would hold multiple cakes.

Thanks for the input! Yes, the jam is long gone and the crock is clean with no odors.

I think it would work well then. Is it a stoneware crock? A porous material I think would be the best material. I think that is why Yixing clay containers are considered good, they are porous.

I believe it’s considered stoneware, so yes it should be porous. And in any event the closure would just be with fabric.
