Tea Prices

What is the most you’d be willing to pay for bag of 20 pyramid tea sachets. Do it depend on the tea? Quality? Or is there a price you’d pay more than regardless the type of tea.

Depends on the tea and the quality and whether or not each bag can yield at least 2 good tasting cups. For 20 sachets, I would not pay more than $7. But I normally make my own bags if I need to take tea with me somewhere unsteeped. I keep only one bagged tea in my supply at present.

where could you get high quality tea for less than $0.35 per sachet?

I pay $6.99 for 25 sachets of a blend of high quality orthodox leaves and CTC, excellent tasting, organic, sustainable tea from Mana Organics.

There’s also a difference to me between “high quality bagged tea” and “high quality tea that is bagged”. I’m not going to buy a dragonwell or sun moon lake in a bag. Part of what I want from high quality teas like that is the whole experience of smelling, seeing the leaves unfurl, taking my time with it. IMO, teas that are bagged can be excellent and high quality- for teas in a bag. They will not (in general) be the equal in quality to a loose leaf tea. I will and do spend far more per cup for quality loose leaf tea. Putting that tea in a bag cuts in half my reason to buy it and turns it into only something to drink. Something really good, maybe, but still something utilitarian.

The only tea bags I buy are generally decaf because they are convenient when I can’t have real tea anyway. I think the most I would pay for 20 teabags is around $7 or $8 as decaf is rarely the quality that I’d pay more. As far as non decaf I really don’t drink tea bags at a time of day before I stop the intake of caffeine due to insomnia.

In general I buy loose leaf, but recently I was gifted a nice tin of Peppermint Chocolate sachets, and the tea was better than the usual bagged. I asked the gifter for the cost just now and it was about 8 dollars. It isn’t something I’d pick for myself, but I did like it.

I pay $11-$15 for Mighty Leaf’s Chocolate mint truffle (15 tea bags) but that is the only tea I will pay that much for. It is the best chocolate mint rooibos/herbal I have found, definitely better than any looseleaf I have tried.

For most boxes of tea, I expect to pay about $6 for 10-16 quality teabags. I wouldn’t buy 25 teabags at once, I prefer to buy 10-15 teabags in one box.
