I can't find a lot of the best rated teas in many categories
ie dave’s teas honey bush coconut
lemon chiffon by della terras
how do i procced if I want the best. is there anyone else i can look to commonly find some stock?
My guess is those teas are long gone. Of course, ‘The best’ is entirely subjective.
Noob central?
Just because people posted positive reviews of flavored teas doesn’t mean they’re a “noob”.
To the OP though – some of those teas have such high ratings because vendors provided samples. It’s a good idea to read the reviews instead of just looking at the score.
Echoing Babble’s thoughts…
Just because someone enjoys flavoured teas doesn’t mean they’re a “noob”, just like because someone prefers straight/pure teas doesn’t mean they’re necessarily more knowledgeable or experienced. As well, there are MANY people on Steepster who actively enjoy both flavoured and straight teas – myself included.
It is true that there’s been a bit of a shift on the site between the number of active members who drink pure/straight teas verses flavoured but that doesn’t necessarily speak to either party’s knowledge of tea, plus like you said, “best” is definitely subjective. So while the sentiment you were trying to convey is understood, I definitely think the word choice was poor.
Also, like Babble said Steepster’s rating system is pretty subjective. Many popular vendors on the site give out samples, people use the rating system differently, and the way the algorithm averages the rating is strange as well – so all of these factor into what determines the top rated teas in a different category.
Some info on the Steepster rating system:

Thanks Roswell for the link about the rating system.
Also, to further add to the rating system, I know when I rate tees I consider anything 95 and above an AMAZING tea. So I rarely give them out. I line it up with Steepster’s “Like it/Love it” scale. Whereas other people a 95 and above is a good tea so they give them out a lot. In fact, I remember one vendor I gave a high 80/low 90 score to their teas and they asked me what I didn’t like about them. I said I did, they just weren’t AMAZING.
With that said, I do miss a lot of the old steepster crew. :(
My apologies to you two—I edited my comment. It was indeed a poor choice of words. :)
No worries. It’s easy to get carried away the more you learn. I – for instance – tend to look down on Lipton drinkers or people who dump a cup full of sugar in their tea. But I have to stop myself and remind myself that they are drinking tea too, even if it’s not the way I’d like :-/
I just have a thing about anything artificially flavored—especially tea and coffee. I do enjoy naturally flavored teas, though. I had a very enjoyable sticky rice pu erh recently and some lychee black tea from Guangdong. You’re right, though, if people think French vanilla coffee from Dunkin Donuts and Pina Colada tieguanyin are the best, they are entitled to their opinion and I hope they enjoy them :)
Della Terra’s Lemon Chiffon is the same as the one Tea Embassy carries. They must have both bought it from the same supplier, which happens fairly often.

It appears as though Della Terra has closed up shop; I know a while back they came ‘under new management’ and their website was temporarily listed as under development/on hiatus – but now their website doesn’t exist at all so I just assume it’s gone now…
That said, their supplier was a company called East Indies Tea Company; I know in the past members here on Steepster have been able to order directly from them – but I don’t know if there’s a certain quantity you would have to buy in order for them to entertain selling directly to you.
Can’t speak for the other one, though.
If there is enough interest, I could look into carrying some of their stuff alongside my blends, too.
I used to drink a lot of Della Terra tea when I first got on Steepster (4-ish years ago), and would be happy to bring those flavors back!
The top rated teas by Whispering Pines are either available or probably will be again when he gets around to producing some of them. Some of the top rated teas are from companies like Butiki who are just out of business and cannot be obtained.
Me too. I stocked up on a couple of her teas and they are fading a bit in flavor which makes me sad. They are a few years old at this point, so it is expected. My attempt at savoring them and avoiding the inevitable empty tin has backfired.
