Found a website that's an exact copy of yunnan sourcing
so sneaky… apparently this is now “BlackTeaLeaves” brand…
Sneaky and not skilled with Photoshop for all the Yunnan Sourcing brand teas still say “Yunnan Sourcing” instead of Black Tea Leaves.
What I don’t get about this one fake site is they take Paypal. With Paypal you tend to get your money back if the company in question doesn’t ship the goods. Paypal traditionally sides with the consumer unless the seller can produce a tracking result indicating delivered.
@YunnanSourcing No because you have said they don’t have your tea there was no reason to try to check out with Paypal. Besides if they actually have fakes of your teas they might ship me something that sucks and I would be stuck with it. But it looks like any other Paypal checkout system at first glance. I was not willing to actually try knowing they don’t actually have the teas. Besides, why would I buy one of your teas from someone else even if I believed they had the tea. You are not the only seller I buy from but I wouldn’t attempt to buy a Yunnan Sourcing product from someone else.
@AllanK, I just tested up to the point of paying. They could easily just give you a epacket number from other sellers or give you the run around. I suspect they are willing to get 9 paypal disputes with the 10th being forgotten by the buyer. Alternatively they could setup their Paypal account with stolen cards or credit cards that can be cancelled or abandoned, collect the paypal payments from customers, withdraw the funds for a few weeks and then once the paypal disputes come they’ve already abandoned that paypal account for another. They can get alot of stolen credit card info from the other sites they run. I’d love to meet these people in person so I could give them a little something they’d never forget.
@AllanK… they don’t have the teas… it’s pretty obvious. read my most recent reply. I think that’s how they scam people using paypal. It’s been done before.
Yes I agree it is obvious they don’t have your teas. But they could still ship something. It’s an unpleasant thought but they could be faking some of your teas. Or you may be right and it may be some form of Paypal scam that I haven’t thought of. Everything successful in China eventually gets faked.
@AllanK no… not yet. I have not had time to badger the hosting company. They won’t just comply with a DMCA request, they have to be badgered constantly.
Other copies (from what I can tell mostly from https://www.teasenz.com/ and https://www.teaspring.com/) :
http://www.benefitteastore.com/
http://www.herbgreenteabenefits.com/
http://www.topherbaltea.com/
http://www.greenteahealthy.com/
Yes they need to know… the DMCA process takes some preparation and depending on who is hosting these sites they can take a long time to review all the DMCA paperwork. It’s an exhausting process. Once the site is taken down, they will just move to another hosting company and we have to start all over to amend and submit the DMCA paperwork again.
So disheartening to hear this is happening. Every day I thank my lucky stars that there are suppliers like Yunnan Sourcing out there. Thanks for all the work you do for the (legitimate) businesses and consumers you support with your ethics and your tea.
Is this legit YS or another fake?
https://yunnan-sourcing.myshopify.com/
sigh. I suppose it’s too much to hope that this won’t replace the old-school site that doesn’t require me to click 3 or 4 times to find out the cake price on something 15 years old that’s “from $11.”
The current site is mostly Doing It Right.
Current site is about to become completely unusable and basically broken such that I am unable to do basic things. It’s also broken on mobile, etc etc etc. On the new site I don’t like that “feature” either where it shows the cheapest price for the cake being the sample. However the new site is much easier to manage and navigate once you get used to it
I am trying to find a way to hack that… shopify is notoriously inflexible. If you click on the quick view of the product it will pop up with the price and options. If you open the product page totally, you can scroll through the products (next/prev upper right) in that collection.
Prestashop what I am using now is just wonky and I lie awake nights wondering when it will break.
last time I updated the paypal module it broke the whole site and we had to load from backup…
@ Ken – a couple of weeks…
overall what do you think of the new version’s interface?
we will add more collections and menu options.
It is a little easier to navigate. Though it will take a bit of time to get used to. Im still really new to this and still at the stage of ordering the newbie safe stuff lol!
There is an idea for a collection, selections for new people.Ones like green miracle, that arent too fermented or bitter that even new palletes can appreciate!
to Mrmopar’s point, will you be transferring those over or would we be best to make a purchase and use them up? heh
Is there a way to enable a list view of the products, at least, as opposed to the grid?
And what mrmopar said, though I don’t have all that many LPs.
Edit: also, can you make storage region be a tag?
Will wish-list and purchase history be transferred to the new site or do we need to go in and copy those ourselves?
I am curious as to why the current site will become broken? Is it something the Chinese government is doing. Your site works so well now I am confused as to why it is going to break?
@AllanK He’s using a freeware platform (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PrestaShop) that he’s been hacking at for, what, 5 years? And tying in with multiple external services for payment and shipping.
These things eventually get too fragile to touch, and it sounds like he’s already there (had to restore from backup last time he tried to touch it).
Looking forward to the new site! And yep, some of those opensource ecommerce platforms are just wonky. I stopped developing for things like Zen Cart because they do break and can be a pain in the * to upgrade if they’ve been heavily modified. Smart to move off before you have issues.
@Sil @Mrmopar – We definitely will transfer the vouchers and points over. We’ll use loyaltylion system on shopify. The points will have the same $ value as they do now. In loyaltylion 100 points is worth a $1 discount. The points you earn will be about 5% of the items total of an order, just like currently.,
@andresito – no and no…
@Blodeuyn – got to take the plunge. I know it will generate some problems and disgruntled customers. But we have been stuck on Prestashop for about 2 years too long. I have anxiety attacks that the payment systems or other critical components will poop out.
Scott after trying green miracle and year of the horse, we are sticking with you no matter what.
@Ken thanks… I am hoping everyone feels that way. It’s a pain to have to learn a new system, but the reward is indeed worthwhile!
@aardvarkcheeselog – Yes… excellent summary of events.
I like the new interface. It’s cleaner and the card based layout is easier to navigate than the list of items.
@LuckyMe Yay!! glad you like it. I think it’s way faster and I can create special collections more easily… the filtering by tags and clicking on tags is pretty nifty too.
I like it. Those drop-downs Work so much better on a mobile.
Collections is a nice idea.
Please consider my advice about tea for new people collection, a selection of less expensive teas, that are good bang for the dollar. The one criticism that I have of your store as a whole and please dont take this wrong, its a bit intimidating..
@Ken, if you sort by price then everything cheaper is a good bang for the buck. I have honed the offering from the megaplex offering available in China. There are literally 10’s of thousands of different pu-erh cakes out there… That being said I will make a season collection of best bang for the buck teas. That’s a great idea.
@scott, thanks for putting all the work into the site! Love the new site and new layouts. The collections and tags are awesome. I am also looking forward to not putting my password in a non-encrypted site. ;)
other good collections would be based on flavour – floral, sour, bitter, sweet, smokey, so hunting for sheng isnt the task it currently is for some of us.
So then I could try samples of cheaper to expensive examples of a taste profile I like.
I know that might be a bit of work but if you get something new in and its really floral or sour or strong huigan etc, you can just put it in the collection, is that how it works?
@Rasseru A good idea. I am wary about that since most all raw young pu-erh are pretty much all bitter, floral, sweet and astringent… maybe adding a smokey or sour tag so I can make a collection would work. Alot of the other tastes in raw pu-erh have more to do with harvest region, age and storage condition which I will cover with different collections. Being
“chinese-trained” in my tea drinking we don’t typically use “flavors” to describe tea. I do want implement an app where users could add “user tags” and make user collections.
@scott, I hate to say this, but is there any chance that the new site will offer other payment options aside from Shopify? I love YS stuff, but Shopify’s done some stuff lately politically that I am very unhappy with.
Shopify is the e-commerce platform that Breitbart’s using. (Breitbart is the alt-right BS news site run by Stephen Bannon, one of Trump’s top advisors.) Even though there’s been a lot of public outcry and calls from employees and other people in the tech industry, Shopify refuses to stop doing business with Breitbart, saying that doing so violates free speech, even though Breitbart’s content violates Shopify’s code of conduct.
TL;DR: YS is awesome, but Shopify refuses to condemn alt-right hate. I’m really conflicted about YS using Shopify to process payments, even though it’s going to make site maintenance easier.
We will have Paypal, Bitcoin, and Dwolla as payment options as well.
Looks like they host stores that sell or espouse other questionable things:
Breitbart sucks… Bannon is scum…
Just wanna send a lotta love for the old YS site, a knight in shining tea armor and we will miss you. I loved seeing as much lovely new product as possible on the landing page. I’m sure the new site will be fine.
check out the home page now… scroll down below the big image to the featured collections and you’ll see a prominent “New Products” collection. This is also accessible from the sidebar menu just below “Home”.
thanks for the feedback!
I will miss the old YS too but the new site is looking good. Any chance Account Login can be moved to the top near My Wishlist?
I think it can be… as I am in agreement that it would be better close to the top.
@Scott, when the new site is finished will it require a new .com user account? I have accounts at the old com and us.
Wondering because you said on page 2, “We definitely will transfer the vouchers and points over.” :)
The accounts will be moved over, so we can pair those with the loyalty points. I think you will have to reset your password. On the old system the passwords are encrypted and cannot be transferred over, but as long as you still have access to the email address that your account is under then you can easily reset the password.
@ southestender Can you tell me if the wishlist is working now? I emailed the support for this app and they said they fixed it. Thank you!
@Scott Knowing the new site is still being worked on I thought I’d try the login using my email address on file and requesting a new password. My address was not recognized so I went ahead and successfully opened a new account using the same email address with a new password. Hope that makes sense.
@ southwestender – we will import the customer accounts the day of the switchover to capture the most up to date information. We will probably delete any accounts on there before that.
I’d like to be able to click on the items in my order history. Sometimes I’ve forgotten the description by the time i bust open a new packet.
I’ll look into that and see if we can add that functionality or if it’s already there.
I just checked and yes… the order history will have hyperlinked products you can click on. Yay!
Can you add the “Availability” feature that was listed under the type/quantity drop down boxes. It showed the quantity in stock.
Well the quantity in stock on the current (old) site is not even remotely correct… things are and always will be in stock until my staff tells me we are out of stock or just about out of stock. It’s better to not show stock quantity than to show it, but have it be totally mis-leading as it is now.
I’m digging the new site… although I just found out the hard way that the wishlist only displays 50 items at a time. >.>
LOL…the wishlist funtion was obviously made for rinky dinky websites…. I’ll see if they can increase it.
According to the wishlist you have 132 products in your wishlist… maybe it’s only displaying 50 per page? or maybe it’s broken. Let me know and I will report to the developer.
Hm, I’m only seeing 50 items total and no separate page links. Methinks this may be broken.
Thanks for looking into it!
thanks for confirming that. I will take up the issue with the developer and see if they can fix it.
@Shade Can you tell me if the wishlist is working now? I emailed the support for this app and they said they fixed it. Thank you!
No, thank you! Being restricted to such a tiny tea wishlist is just wrong on all levels, LOL.
And now my account seems to be, erm, gone. I’m starting to think that this site hates me…
@Shade @weiThe site is in development. The user accounts were expunged by my IT friend yesterday. He is doing a test import of email addresses. the site will launch in about a week. You’ll know it’s launched because yunnansourcing.com will direct to the new site when it’s switched over.
Aha, that makes sense. I thought that may have been the case, but it’s good to get confirmation.
Looking forward to the launch. :)
@Shade I checked the wishlist app in the back office and you are still in there. I suspect if your email address is the same after we do the import or you register an account under the same email address it might link to the wishlist you built. Not sure about that… but there is a chance.
