the rise of the curator-specialist tea vendors
Essence of Tea. Some of the online tea community doesn’t love them because their marketing is simple, but these are definitely some of the best cakes of puerh to be had. They have been at it awhile, and you might have been around before for nadacha.co.uk. Their older teas are all very warm, plummy and massive, something about their house storage. Their own line is gentle with immense depth.
Interesting. I made a first pass through Essence of Tea and Tea Urchin and found myself responding much harder, in a gut and intuitive way, to the Tea Urchin stuff, but the samples I got were pretty random. What would you push as classically representative of the EoT “gentle with immense depth” which, in the abstract, is one of my favorite things.

Essence has some crazy connections in the northern region of yunnan. A lot of the teas I would have recommended are gone, and I have not sample 2016, but on the Badger and Blade SOTD the Wuliang H was received well. In terms of older teas the 2007 Qi Sheng Gu and the Bingdao Peacock both line up with my descriptor for their own line. Throw in the 2000 Green Peacock if you do end up ordering, it is so comforting and rich, or “massive”.
Probably shouldn’t do this as it will get me in trouble.
Antone want in on an Essence of Tea order shipped stateside in the lower 48? I think the threshold for free shipping is 100 pound or about $133.00 US for shipping. I could receive it and ship it out no later than the Saturday after it arrives here. Maybe earlier if the work schedule allows it.
Message me or follow me and we will message from that point.
haha, good luck mrmopar. What is on your mind from them? I would consider joining but am in Germany.
