Condensed milk with black tea?
That’s the question, has anyone tried to add condensed milk to English breakfast or Assam instead of current milk?
I do this when making a spice concentrate for chai lattes. I like my chai milky and sweet so what I do is put a can of sweetened condensed milk into a Tupperware type container and stir in some garam masala till it tastes right, sometimes I add other spices. I store it in the fridge and whenever I want a chai latte I brew some Assam and mix a spoonful of the concentrate in and it’s delicious.
I’m sure it would taste good minus the spices if you like your black tea like that.
Yup. Condensed milk is commonly used in things like Hong Kong milk tea, royal milk tea… I tried making chai with it once, like Frolic suggests, but ended up finding it a little too sweet for my tastes.
Actually, we use evaporated milk in HK. Sweetened condensed milk and peanut butter is used on waffles, however
Condensed milk is common anywhere that fresh milk can’t be found. It useful in doing chai tea where you boil the tea along with spices, because it won’t curdle from overheating.
Ask all of Indonesia and Malaysia. They call it “Teh Susu” or “Teh Tarik”. It’s yummy. Tea should be pretty strong to shine through…
Thank you very much.
As I can’t drink normal milk (lactose intolerance maybe) I plan to add 1 spoon of condensed milk to the English breakfast/Assam every morning.
That may still trigger your lactose intolerance. I’m lactose intolerant too and worked my way up to 5 tablespoons of milk a day by increasing the amount of milk in my eggs by one tablespoon a day. Going to start adding some to my protein shakes in the morning, too, to further help raise my tolerance
I don’t have problems with condensed milk JayinHK, I don’t know why but when I drink UHT milk (in Spain we only have (not only but the 95% of milk is UHT) UHT milk) I have stomach problems, but I haven’t got any problems when take something that contains lactose…
