Key Lime
Today’s secret ingredient!
These little limes are more sour than your average lime. Because they are small, they are convenient to squeeze into your favourite tea, and you can get a lot of use out of a bag of them. One bag was only $2.50 here, and had at least 20 limes from Mexico.
The first use that crossed my mind was revitalising a tea on the last steep. Adding a little fragrance and sourness.
I did find that too much salt toned down the sourness, but took away a lot of flavour too.
Ideas on use?
I just wanted to update this. I have found these little limes to be so useful over the past two weeks for green or black tea. Great for iced tea. When you kinda get bored or need to make a tea more interesting, they are helpful to have.
With one green tea, they helped bridge the quality gap a little.
Another time, I put too much sugar in, and they saved the day.
Anyone else have some fruit you keep around for tea? Or perhaps something else?
Jam actually. I’ve got some incredible handmade jams i’ll sometimes add to teas.
VariaTEA – you got it… Kitten and the bear as an incredible key lime coconut jam that turns into the best cold brew “tea” as well…
I have actually never been but I am dying to go. There is a banana, bourbon, vanilla one that is calling my name :P
