Do you drink your tea too hot?
Very Hot Drinks Are ‘Probable’ Cancer Trigger, Says WHO:

What are your thoughts on this? It’s a good reason for drinking from small cups that let the tea cool down faster?
I think this report has to be taken with a grain of salt. Up until now, coffee was actually onWHOs list of cancer fighting substances. So how can it be good then suddenly be bad. I think that the studies are only looking at one variable, these ones look at the temperature. But in reality there are a lot of variables that need to be considered.
I think we have to also look at the history; tomatoes used to be good, then they were bad, and now there are good. It was the same for onions. White bread was bad and now it’s neither good nor bad. There will always be scientific studies that are done where some prove and others disprove a theory
I have heard of this before and have to admit it is possible. However this study says something like tea at 149 degrees hot. I had thought it was tea or coffee hotter than that. Also have to realize that a substance that is considered healthy on Monday, will cause cancer on Tuesday, and then be healthy again by Friday. These things change on a regular basis.
First off always try and get ahold of the actual paper before you pay attention to any of these “scientists find” news articles since some of them (even from otherwise reputable news sources) are notoriously bad. I didn’t get the paper since lancet oncology seems to be behind a paywall, but the article itself mentions that the risk is much lower than if you drink alcohol regularly (which is a known mouth/throat cancer risk). It makes a big deal of coffee being purchased well above the 145 degree threshold, but neglects to mention that very few people can stand to drink the coffee that hot. It seems like a bit of headline grabbing fear mongering to me.
I agree with you guys. Sometimes it’s not really the fault of scientist though, they’re usually pretty careful with the conclusions (if not sponsored by a beneficial party), but the media tends to shape it in a breaking story.
