Puerh tea and sauna
A crazy idea came to my mind! Since I’m living in Finland, where there is thousands of saunas and it’s hot and humid in there. Is it possible to mature puerh in there? Like hear other peoples opion.
I don’t know the humidity in a sauna but I suspect it’s too high, mold.
I keep my pumidor around 68%. Any higher without periods of lower humidity and you risk mold growth. The places where puerh ages in high humidity will have seasons of lower humidity that give the tea time to dry out. Any places where humidity is constantly above 80% and people will be taking steps to avoid mold growth.
If they can age tea in caves, planes, bathrooms, basements, tombs…. Why not just try it :)
Cedar, the typical wood used in saunas is high in VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and that will definitely affect the tea that is around that smell for more than a couple of days. Also, the heat that is used in a conventional sauna is just too much for the tea, though perhaps you weren’t referring to having the tea in there when the sauna is in action. I drink tea in my sauna pretty much every day, but would never store tea in it. Unless one enjoys cedar flavored tea :)
