I don’t know the humidity in a sauna but I suspect it’s too high, mold.
Humidity is high. Usually 70-80%
If it 70% it is a little too high in my opinion. 80% is definitely too high.
70 is too high? the research ive read says differently.
I keep my pumidor around 68%. Any higher without periods of lower humidity and you risk mold growth. The places where puerh ages in high humidity will have seasons of lower humidity that give the tea time to dry out. Any places where humidity is constantly above 80% and people will be taking steps to avoid mold growth.
cool. ive been monitoring mine at 68-71 range. ill keep it on the lower of the range from now on
If they can age tea in caves, planes, bathrooms, basements, tombs…. Why not just try it :)
Who does porches I wonder…..grinning along the way…
I’ve read they even age puerh on dead horses…
Dead horse smelling puerh, great idea.
I am more concerned about the smell from the sauna.
Yes I hadn’t thought of that. Whatever smells are in the sauna will be absorbed by the tea. What does a sauna smell like?
>.<
I don’t want to imagine how it taste like…
Cedar, the typical wood used in saunas is high in VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and that will definitely affect the tea that is around that smell for more than a couple of days. Also, the heat that is used in a conventional sauna is just too much for the tea, though perhaps you weren’t referring to having the tea in there when the sauna is in action. I drink tea in my sauna pretty much every day, but would never store tea in it. Unless one enjoys cedar flavored tea :)
Cedar wood is also why we cannot buy beautifully designed cigar humidors to be made into pumidors for our puerh, they are made out of cedar wood as well. They are incredibly nice some of them and would undoubtedly work well except for the cedar wood.
Nah, don’t do it… same reasons as above
