Favorite Place to Purchase Yancha?
The title says it all. I’m almost entirely out of yancha and would love to hear your favorite shops. I’ve had great luck with Tao Tea Leaf and YS, but would very much like to try other vendors. Bonus points if you can point me toward a Rou Gui with strong cinnamon notes.
Ive heard good stuff about EssenceofTeas yancha. I want to try them this year.
I really like JingTeaShop for fenghuang, not sure what their yancha is like, but maybe email sebastien there and ask for some samples – their fenghuang has always been strong tasting and aromatic. Each one very distinctive from each other. Nothing more annoying than buying two differently described oolongs (or any tea) and they taste the same! And fresh. If that translates to their yancha then its be worth a try at least.
I would love to try a heavy cinnamon roi gui too so watching this thread. Ive found I like fenghuang more than wuyi but would love to be shown some good rock oolong.
Thanks. I like that you can purchase by the gram from them.
Have you tried Tao Tea Leaf? If you’re looking for good Wuyi give them a try. Great prices for US and UK customers as they’re a Canadian company.
Whispering Pines. Their regular and wildcrafted da hong pao are both very good.
Thanks. Whispering Pines just resells YS at a really high markup. I’m not sure if YS is their DHP supplier, but I’ve had YS’s Wildcrafted and few other DHPs with good luck.
Ah, I was in fact wondering about that when I saw YS’s wild da hong pao. Might just give the YS one a try someday, thanks!
@cookies Is that true about WP just reselling YS? Is that true for all their teas / blends? Where did you learn that?
Unfortunately they are one of the many companies that are not transparent in their sourcing, so who knows where all their tea is sourced. That I’ve heard of…

my recent tasting were from Tea Yuan. You can ask Ben Prentice on IG that you want to buy samples. Rou Gui wasnt strong with cinnamon but very enjoyable
i love Tao Tea Leaf and YS yancha ;D
Heh, maybe I should stick with what I know, then. It has been a while since my last Tao purchase…
3 Stamp Shui Xian and Tie Luo Han i will order, next billing cycle.
I order TTL twice a year on their 50% sales Boxer day. My last order was DHP and Bei Dou. Love them both. Bei Dou is not popular cultivar. very few times i saw an offer of it.
I didn’t order last summer so I have room for another purchase :) I don’t know if I can wait until July. I can’t remember if I had their Bei Dou… I’ll put that on my list. I am fond of their Rou Gui and DHP. Both have cream notes which I love in Yancha.
“…floral and sweet with ineffable nectar-like complexity” Mmm, that sounds nice. I’m going to add that to my next order.
what I noticed, and i did a few against each other, was when the others went bland through the steeps, this one had a creamy note that appeared, like a good oolong. It is a nice one
Okay, YS was having a sale on blacks so I snuck in a few oolongs including that one. I’m excited to give it a try.
I also picked up Wu Yi Shan “Zi Hong Pao” Purple DHP, Golden Guan Yin and more Wild DHP
Depends on price range… I can hook you up with a private seller.
Pwrsonally, I try from all over but your high end collectors will probably have the good stuff at a higher price.
I buy Yancha from most of the vendors I buy puerh from. An easy add on to an order.
I’ve been looking at White2Tea’s Rou Gui. Supposedly that one has true cinnamon notes. I’d have to make a larger order though, in order to make the shipping worthwhile.
I have a tin of that, which I added to a purchase after trying a sample. The good thing about w2t shipping is the rate is the same no matter how much tea you buy, unlike the small window of opportunity from other companies because a jump in shipping tier comes into play at various weights. The best deal is getting the Basics set and adding anything else after that. In this way, you’re getting all tea.
But this is only if you’re buying puerh which is heavy or teaware. Weight wise, if all you want to buy is yancha, might as well stay stateside.
