2016 Sheng Olympics (group buy)
Im pretty excited for the chance to try these delicious shengs.. I’m hoping mine will turn up soon.. in the uk an’ all.
I got mine!! I got mine!!! * mad muppet flail of joy!* I’ve already ripped open the package and sniffed all of them!! :D Yippee!! Soooo many shiny pakkitches!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing this and giving me the chance to participate!
I have to ask… did you have fun breaking the cakes down? Because I find it crazy satisfying to take the leaves apart. I bought two cheap tuochas.. and just couldn’t stop destroying them, I now have two ziplock baggies of loose tea puerh leaves.. Heehee! I’m sorta afraid of buying a cake and not being able to stop! o.O
Many of these were enjoyable to break and see the different layers, however the 100g cakes were to precious because I had the error rate of 2% because they weighted about 98g or so…
It was a tedious thing to do and I learned a lot!
Just got mine, and I’m floored! I can’t wait to start tasting! Everything was packaged so meticulously – thank you for putting so much care and effort into this – :)
Wow, so many samples to choose from I don’t know where to start. Great job on the organizing and packing LP. Never had Laotian Puerh’s, might start there.
So.. Has anyone come up with a method to decide in what order to delve into these? I’m a little hesitant to just dive in without a plan. Some of you seem like method people, I’m sure I’m not the first person to think of this. :)

I just finished the last sample that I had around from the Yunomi group order right before I received this. I always seem to have good tea from you.
Let them breathe a day or two with the bag open. Another trick I use is after rinsing let it sit for 10 minutes or so with the lid on your brew vessel. The water will continue to soak in the tea. Sometimes the tea will double in weight after the rinse. The more water you get in the dry tea the better the brew will be.
This is a great question. There is no correct way to do it and my opinion is just that; an opinion.
I highly recommend drinking the Verdant side by side if possible. Other than that, my approach is kind of scattered based on how much time I have in regards to how much I think I’ll be steeping a particular tea. The 2001 Silver Needle is one I’ll only go 6 deep with and the Laos will probably be 10, but the TU and YS sheng will be 15+ for me as I want to really evaluate $100+ cake; though I have the beengholes, I’ll figure it out.
Trying out the 2007 Bang Wei Spring from Tea Urchin. This was really good tea and and aged version of the 2011 that I had the other day. It has lost it’s apricoty sweetness and is developing more of an aged taste. Not there yet though.
Received my teas today. Thank you very much LP for all the work you have gone through with this group buy.
I drank the 2015 Sheng that Verdant claimed was from 1800 year old trees. Drinking this makes me wonder why they claimed that. This was really good sheng. It was sweet and smooth with notes of apricots and stonefruits. There was almost no bitterness. The only negative thing about this is I am not really getting much qi off of it. Other than that it was among the best young sheng I have drank. I think they could have easily sold this for what it is, probably from trees in the vicinity of 40 or 50 years. This is a tea that would have stood on it’s own.
I have yet to hear anything bad about the taste thus far :)
Really glad that you enjoy it!
