Favorite Company for Flavored Tea?
I’ve been tasked with purchasing a few teas on behalf of a family friend. Trouble is they asked for ‘the best flavored teas I knew of’ and I unfortunately stick to unflavored almost exclusively. I picked up a few samples from 52 Teas, but other than that I’m a bit stuck as to where else I should turn, and would love a few suggestions. They prefer dessert type teas (think cream, chocolate caramel etc. flavors) rather than fruity flavors if that helps with suggestions. Thanks!
Where do you live? I have some good UK suggestions, but I suspect you’re from the US/Canada.
Whoops, sorry. Yes I’m in the US. But if they ship over here I would definitely still consider them. The UK seems to have very affordable international shipping.
Ah nuts, I think Bluebird is the only one with international shipping (beyond Europe, that is). Still, they’re an interesting one I might look into. They have some really nice dessert-type teas, and Love Potion is one of my all-time favourites. To be honest, though, I think for a gift you’d be better off saving the money on shipping and getting teas from the US instead.
most of the dessert flavored teas I have are from David’s. Highly recommend Lupicia’s Caramel & Rum and Tea Guys’ Chocolate Ginger Bourbon, also The Whistling Kettle’s Marzipan Rooibos if they are fans of almond. Harney’s Vanilla Comoro is very vanilla. I would also check out the reviews here on French Toast Dianhong from a new vendor who is a Steepster peep— Liquid Proust— it is creamy chocolate custardy.
Thanks! I haven’t tried David’s myself but I know people seem to love them. I think I’ll check them out first.
Damman Freres, hands down. And they are probably cheaper than you think.
I thought about DF, but most everything I’ve tried from there has been fruity (and delicious!).
Oh, they do have good prices and a few teas with vanilla/chocolate ingredients.. And USD is doing okay against the Euro at the moment too. How is shipping? I couldn’t find a tab on their site.
Butiki… :p

If they like coffee as well they may like this as it was a hit with my friends in college: http://www.amazon.com/LoveTea-Loose-Oolong-Caramel-Cream/dp/B009YMA6QI/ref=sr_1_sc_1?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1437934274&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=carmel+oolong
We drank through 16ounces of that in 3 months’ish
If you’re open to rooibos let me know as there are many of those out there.
Someone needs to vouch for this… I’m curious: http://steepster.com/teas/bluebird-tea-co/65676-ice-cream-float
I haven’t had anything from Bluebird that I’ve been wildly pleased with— what would you rec from them?
What have you tried from Bluebird?
Love Potion is a favourite of mine, I also really like rhubarb & custard, Earl’s paradise, elderflower champagne, coco chai no.5, hot mama jama, nearly nirvana (so accurate), spiced pumpkin pie, dark chocolate chilli chai, watermelon splash, cherry bakewell, gingersnap green and snowball. I find some of Bluebird’s teas completely delicious, but there are others I can’t stand (I’m looking at you, Terry’s tea and pear drops)
I do like the Hot Mama Jama and the Dark Chocolate Chili Chai. I really wanted to like Rhubarb & Custard but found it underwhelming, true of some others as well. And there are some that sounded so good and I just don’t like… Birthday Cake comes to mind— I think it may be their Rooibos.
LP I am not a fan of cotton candy so have avoided Candy Floss :)
Ah yes, the troublesome Birthday Cake. I hated that one, too. It could be their rooibos, now you’ve mentioned it – 3/4 of my least favourite of their teas are rooibos based (Birthday Cake, Pear Drops and Honey Bee Beautiful). I do really like their rhubarb & custard, but since it’s discontinued maybe they changed rooibos since then? I do have to use more leaf that the suggestion for that one, too.
It’s worth persevering, though – Bluebird are sometimes hit and miss, but I’ve found some real gems in their selection!
Harney has some nice, affordable flavored blends. Florence is a popular one – hazelnut and chocolate. And second sren’s suggestion of Vanilla Comoro. Also their Chai is decent and the Indian Nimbu has a nice cararmely side to it without being overwhelmingly desserty. Glitter & Gold is the only blend I like from David’s and it’s very good as a cinnamon tea. Brioche from American Tea Room. Orchid Vanilla from Tea Forte is quite nice. Creme Brulee from An Afternoon to Remember. Night of the Iguana Chai from New Mexico Tea Co. is spicy and also desserty.
If you like flavored iced teas, I’d mention Southern Boy Teas (www.southernboyteas.com) I might be a little biased though. =)
I’m all unflavoured now but Tealux has always been a great site for flavoured and unflavoured. You can get stuff in small quantities too – 25g.
I like Lupicia for fruit flavored teas, I can’t vouch for their dessert teas (haven’t really tried them), except for Strawberry&Chocolate pu’erh, which was amazing!
Adagio has some ok stuff for starters and a nice points system, they have a large variety and the blending part of the site is quite fun. I would start with THIS: https://www.adagio.com/gifts/holiday_ingenuiTEA.html
I will also 2nd TeaLux/TeaLyra. If your friend likes fruity black teas I recommend the Dragon Lychee Pearls. =D They also have a sale going on through tomorrow (7/27) with code SUMMER20.
Any recommendations from Tealux? Love their Dragon Lychee Pearls but that one tea isn’t enough to warrant placing an order =o
Strawberry Oolong, honey orchid dancong, milk jin xuan taiwainese oolong (unflavored) (this tastes like raisin bread to me!), jasmine dragon pearls. The slimming oo pu-erh diet tea was surprisingly tasty too, but might not be to everyone’s taste. I’ve heard Brandy oolong ruby (?) is good too, but I haven’t had it in awhile.
edit I’m not finding the Strawberry oolong on the site, so they might be out or not carrying it anymore. =(
Thanks Lariel for letting me know. I looked it up, but it’s a scented tea? I think the TeaLyra one was unscented and unflavored. At least that’s their website had stated. Teavivre’s version is in my cart anyways, because I’m addicted to strawberries.
