Thanks Sil for reminding me there was this thread. dunno what i was thinking!

Todays pick of the crop:

2014 oriental beauty competition grade, Hsinchu County, Mountain Tea:

One of the nicest drinks I have had the pleasure of. 3g 30 second steeps gongfu today and the aroma & balance of taste is goddessly, Its like cinnamon & bark & fruit made a pact and joined into one super drink, with honey popping in to say hello if left to cool a bit. Good Dong Fang Mei Ren and honey gabbalong are my favourite drinks ive tried so far, period. The aftertase lingers and i get so many wonderful flavours running around in my head. Im so floaty and nice im forgetting to do things and sitting with a grin on my face :)

8 steeps in and its still got a numbing mouthfeel. Im so hooked

Honourable mention goes to:

Lao Cong Ya Shi, Jing tea Shop:

The infamous ‘Duck Shit’ aroma. Gongfu style, 30 second steeps. Its interesting! i really cant quite put my finger on what aroma it is, but its weirdly perfumed and odd. and quacks a bit. I do like it. I think :)

Yeah i get it from this ob. Less caffeine + better quality = happy me. Caffeine is quite a harsh feeling compared

hmm. Recently I have been sampling teas from YS, What-cha, & I have some Sanne tea to try.

the Fujian Zhangping Light Roasted Shui Xian Cake from what-cha was delightful. 50g for £10 isnt too bad at all for how nice 5g was gongfu style.

Also quite liked the Wu Yi Shan “Zi Hong Pao” Purple Da Hong Pao Oolong Spring 2015 from Yunnan Sourcing. It was a bit different.

And the jing Tea shop Lao Cong Ya Shi ended up blowing my mind. Gorgeous stuff.

Supreme Zhejiang Tikuanyin from Bird Pick Tea. I’m surprised by how much I like this one. I don’t usually love TGY and only picked this up because I needed to hit free shipping. But this turned out to be lovely. Beautifully floral, and oh-so-sweet.

Equusfell said

Oh, I’m starting to hear more and more about Bird Pick. May have to put them on my list this year!

They have some really nice teas. Their problem is that their sizes are so large they are really turning away most customers. It’s worth e-mailing them for samples though, you might find something you want 4oz of.

Equusfell said

Honestly, that sounds like ripe territory for a future group buy. I’m going to plant the idea in our collective heads here!

Lets try and keep this thread afloat – the Pu thread gets more love. come on oolong fans

how damn nice is Da Yu Ling? I’m drinking the mountaintea one today and its sooooooooo good. Even the dry leaf smells like cream & green. Got to be one of the nicest green/vegetal tea types you can get

The what-cha zhang ping is delicious. Not quite as pink (!) as that photo – are you sure the colours are correct on that? Amazing if so

Yeah… that one I posted is probably 10x more delicate. I said ‘probably’ because I’m still waiting for someone to send me one of these ones :)
@someone , you hear me right?

The white balance is pretty far skewed in that photo. I doubt it’s nearly that purple in person.

Rasseru said

ok, quite interested in that then..

I have some of this same type from Chawangshop, it might even be the same. I will include one in the package I am sending to you, Liquidproust.

I wish sources were listed for the tea in those photos! Beautiful stuff.

I tried some from this Aliexpress seller that specializes in this tea: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/926085. I have a feeling online retailers are all sourcing this tea from the same farm.

It’s intensely floral and packs a serious caffeine wallop. One of my all-time favorite oolongs

Rasseru said

I wondered if there were a lot from the same farm as well, have seen similar packaging. You can get them quite cheap if you buy a lot at a time. Need to try to see if its good quality

The one I had from what-cha didnt have a massive caffeine wallop though

I have a couple of these laying around from chawangshop. the green ones light roast get me really tea drunk!

I got a 10g shui xian mini-cake. The regular one I think, not charcoal baked. A half-cake is enough for a single gongfu session and will give you quite a bit of mileage.

Rasseru said

Yeah the light type is so nice

FYI to all, I ended up grabbing this sampler pack: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/100g-Fujian-Zhangping-Shui-Xian-Summer-Spring-Narcissu-oriental-beauty-health-care-Oolong-tea-vacuum-specialty/926085_924583986.html

Seriously? $5.90 for 50 gm of tea that y’all seem to be going nuts for?! So worth it!

Rasseru said

Hopefully it isnt old sofa aroma

Psyck said

They are probably going nuts more on its looks than its taste :)

boychik said

Equusfell how many squares are you getting for $5.9? one or more? did you ask the seller?

Equusfell said

The description says one pack of each of five types. One pack is 10 grams. I assumed I’m getting one square of each, so five squares. That is a reasonable ‘try it’ price to me, even though most of those teas are 10-15 bucks for 100 gm. This will help me decide if I like it enough to go for a larger quantity.

boychik said

cool, let us know how you like them. i only tried
http://www.chawangshop.com/index.php/oolong-tea/zhangping-shui-xian-fujian/2015-spring-heavy-charcoal-roasted-zhangping-shui-xian-mini-cake.html
i think it was 2012. delicious but too much for one session.

Rasseru said

Boychik – you have to try the light roast. That was top quality, I tried both from what-cha and the light really nailed something lush

boychik said

sorry, but nope. i dont do flowers. never. the only oolong i enjoy is roasted oxidized kind. i tried, believe me ;D

Rasseru said

fair enough! Yeah its all soft petals and stuff

Had a couple of cha ceremony teas this weekend. The aged rougi was very nice, hints of vanilla and whiskey. I also tried the Zhengyan Shui Xian which was excellent. I think that would age well, though it is a bit expensive.

Glad you enjoyed! I have found most Zhengyan ShuiXian to be pricer than what I offer, curious if you have found cheaper Zhengyan.

Rich select said

Indeed, thanks for making those teas available! I have not shopped around, I’m a bit new to oolongs.

I have a 60’s oolong… for the sake of saying “I’ve had it”, does anyone have the deep dark secrets of 50’s or 40’s?

Drinking a wonderful green oolong – Verdant Valley from Dachi. Lightly floral, buttercream and granola. Really flapjacks more than granola, but who’s being picky? First time trying it tonight.

Anyone else been comparing the premium tgy with the imperial tgy from YS?

I didnt want to notice any difference, the cheaper would have been preferred. And they are both amazing, but back to back the imperial tasted fresher & the aroma was better. I was surprised that it was less thick, but had more definition in flavour

Had one of the best oolong sessions last night :)
