I’m addicted to Beautiful Taiwan Tea’s oolongs… packed with flavor, huge leaf, and the aroma just captivates me. It’s going to be hard to make a Taiwan Sourcing order when these oolongs seem to go beyond everything I want already. Someone convince me to make a TS order please!
omg. they look lovely. which have you tried that are nice?
I loved everything I’ve tried fr TS. My tastes are different as you know. I got all roasted oxidized teas. They are skillfully done, roast is beautiful, not ashy.
I liked their Alishan but not so much the Dayuling. Also didn’t like Oriental Beauty but that’s not a knock on them, I’m not a fan of heavily oxidized oolong tea in general.
I’ve sadly had the opposite experience. Picked up three of their oolongs and wasn’t happy with any of them. Which are your favorites?
Russ here. im an Oolong addict as well. funny, as a kid i always liked it, and have been buying the cheap stuff all my life. then one day 6 years ago i happened upon some good ceylon in a car boot sale. From that day on my taste has developed to where I am today, a slave to the many Dan Congs, The oriental beauties, the Da Yu Lings.
I know i should be monogamous and stick to one of them but they’re are all too sexy, i just cant help myself :/
This thread hasn’t had much activity lately so I’m reviving it. This morning I was looking for something different in my tea. I had these tiny samples from an Aliexpress seller (China Tea Capital CO. Ltd.). There was a little bit of English on each packet but nothing to say what the actual tea is (I haven’t bothered adding it to the Steepster database.) So I grabbed one and opened it. I recognized it right away: Ginseng Oolong. Now, I’ve never had this type of oolong before. Every time I would see it in pictures, it just looked weird. The idea of drinking ginseng was weird. So, no I still have not tried this type of oolong before.
Got out the cute little gaiwan I got with my order from this company and brewed it gong fu style. Wow, this is floral, buttery, and sweet. It’s like a brown sugar sweet- very intense. So being my first ginseng oolong, either this is a very good ginseng oolong or else it’s standard and I will love most ginseng oolongs out there.
Either way, I am now sold on ginseng oolong.
I love ginseng oolongs! You are lucky that your first one was so good! Some can be kinda… meh. Personally, when you get that lingering ginseng after taste… that’s what I love most =]
I am a huge fan of Mandala Tea’s ginseng oolong.
Ah, now I have to get my hands on some ginseng oolong. I’ve seen it online and the idea of drinking ginseng didn’t appeal to me – I thought it was a medicinal tea. The flavor profile you describe sounds really interesting.
The brown sugar sweet was coming from the ginseng. As the tea cooled I got a better taste of what the ginseng is really like. It’s quite good.
I enjoyed some of Jospeh Wesley’s DHP yesterday afternoon. I’m sad I’m almost at the end of the bag :(
he said he might bring more this fall
I also really miss the Qi Lan
I received a few less-oxidized oolongs from Taiwan Tea Crafts yesterday. Trying the Shibi now and I’m in love! Also got their simple little Tulip Cup and adore the shape. Might have to pick up a backup.
I’m glad someone mentioned Taiwan Tea Crafts. I loved their Shibi oolong too and their osmanthus jin xuan and jasmine four seasons are also very good. Their exquisite teaware sometimes seems to overshadow their excellent tea selection.
Recently compared some TGY and Milk Oolong https://instagram.com/p/7qs-5xRYAn/
I’m enjoying some Wenshan Gold Baozhong from Taiwain Sourcing and it is DELIGHTFUL. Totally licking my cup. A lot of shadow in the pic – but here it is: https://instagram.com/p/7yR-L6Qx80/?taken-by=atasteofmzpriss
Mmmm, good Baozhong is just so tasty. Never really complex but so sweet and enjoyable!
Interesting! I generally find good Baozhongs to be some of the most complex oolongs!
Sijichun oolong from Teamasters. Sweet and floral, very light on the vegetal notes. No bitterness or astringency, some oily texture and slick mouthful. Brews forever, I’ve gotten over 20 steeps with this. Relatively cheap under 20 cents a gram, makes my average session around a dollar, tough to beat. Something I’d consider buying in a large amount for a Taiwanese oolong fix without breaking the bank
I have a 2014 357g pressed Tieguanyin cake, how many people would be interested in partaking in a group drink * discussion?
I’ve yet to break off even one piece.
This one is unroasted… I have a 2006 roasted TGY cake as well, but I’ve sent quite a bit of it out.
Yes, you sent some of that one to me (I like it!). I’ll pass on the unroasted.
I’m having a nice quiet Saturday and going through the rest of my Aug/Sept w2t oolongs – fresh & aged dahongpao, qilan fire & trees, and aged dahongpao brick. Already had the clover patch a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. I really liked the fresh DHP a lot as well. Moving on to the aged. The day is young!
