Large Chinese teacups?

I love the style of Chinese gongfu teacups and their beautiful designs but find the sizes way too small for my liking. Most are only 1-2 oz, and I drink about 3-4 oz at a time. I’ve searched high and low on online teashops and aliexpress but can’t seem to find anything larger than 2 oz. The biggest I could find were these: http://www.teavivre.com/blue-and-white-handwriting-bamboo-hat-shaped-tea-cup/

Does anyone know if Chinese teacups larger than 2oz even exist or am I out of luck here?

I’m not saying that they don’t exist, but I feel you are going to have a hard time finding them much bigger than that. I guess it depends on what you are looking for…. Chinese teacup is a huge category, based on the ones you posted, I’m thinking you like fine hand painted ones – of which small is easy to find larger not so much. Here is one at 100ml but it might not be what you are looking for… http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-Lotus-Flower-Handmade-Longquan-Kiln-Celadon-Porcelain-Gongfu-Teacup-100ml-/301142134958?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item461d7850ae
If I may – the solution to this problem is a fairness pitcher. Pour the tea off the leaves into the pitcher and then into your small cup, you can just keep refilling from the pitcher. That’s what I do, but I still prefer 75ml to the tiny 30ml. Good Luck I hope you find what you are looking for. If I see any I’ll pop back in and link them. :)

You might check out this Japanese EBay seller. He has some larger tea cups. I bought one much like this.

120 ml (4 oz)

Maybe look for tea bowl instead of tea cup. Or look at buying a larger gaiwan and use it for a cup.

Wasn’t there a thread about people having problems with this company a while back? Are they any good?

I didn’t have any issues with my order. While I was putting things in my cart, a sales rep came on a live chat window and offered me 5% off instead of the 3% I’d be getting as a first time customer. They shipped pretty quickly for being slow boat from China and everything was well packed. Ordered on the 3rd, shipped on the 12th, got it on the 19th. My tea tray smells like they stored it in lapsang souchong but that’s not all bad, I’m pleased. :)

I have always been happy with items I have ordered with this ebay company in China-
shipping takes time but nothing has arrived to Florida damaged

Dragon Tea House on EBay is good but they have their own website, www.dragonteahouse.biz, where they give a 10% discount after you register. Otherwise it is the same.

there are many more items on the ebay site for sale

They actually have a larger selection on their own site. They don’t list quite everything on EBay.

Japanese teacups are bigger. I’ve bought some Japanese teasets that have the larger cups.

Also, I happily found many large Chinese teacups at my local Chinese market (and at great prices! .50 cents or 1.00 each)

I think Yunnan Sourcing has some larger teacups.

I normally prefer the smaller cups myself, but when I do feel like drinking a bigger cup I often drink from a chawan! =)

P.S. Look for summer Chawans, they flare out more and look similar in shape to the cups you listed.

I picked up a couple of larger glass cups at Ikea for $1.49 each. They work just fine.

This mantis cup is 3.5 oz, pricey, and I want it badly.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions everyone and the great sites. Umi tea especially has a very extensive collection of tea cups.

I used to exclusively drink Japanese greens so I do have a few very nice Japanese tea cups, they’re about 4-6 oz. Still, I’ve grown to really like the fine Chinese handpainted ones. Think I’ll end up settling for one of the 70 ml cups like Dexter suggested and save my larger teacups for guests. Because unless they are tea aficionados most Americans find it strange being served tea in such tiny cups. Even the 4 oz turkish tea glasses I usually serve tea in are considered small.

You can find potters on Etsy who make cups in the Chinese shapes but bigger. Just search for Shino glaze or wood-fired or ash fired.
