I am New to Tea
Hi Everyone!
I am new to tea, I am trying to wean myself off of coffee and onto tea. The reason I love coffee is the amount of creamer and sugar I put into it. I would love to start getting into tea and I know there are some teas that are way better then coffee. I just have no idea where to start.
You may find the tea that is most like coffee is ripe puerh, although it is a bit of an acquired taste. I can be as dark as coffee.
Welcome to Steepster, feel free to ask anything.
The best way to get into tea is just to start trying different ones, and little by little you begin to realize what tastes suit you best.
Welcome to Steepster! Oolong Owl just posted some sample boxes for sale, maybe you’d like to take a peek. :) The best advice I can give is to start small, sample a lot, and don’t buy large quantities of tea at a time.

Welcome, swest87! I found it helpful to browse the library of tasting notes here. Check out the notes for Lupicia’s Cinnamon Cookie Pu’er… it has a coffee like quality. Happy exploring!
Hi and welcome. Are you trying to find a coffee-flavored substitute or something that will take cream and sugar well or a completely different taste? There are sooooo many teas.
Let us know if there are some tea shops near you and we might be able to suggest a few good teas to try. Also, most shops will make a sample for you before you buy which is a very good way to get started. Most tea shop employees (okay, I’m generalizing in a positive way) are very willing to help new tea drinkers.Caffeine/no caffeine?
BTW, you came to the right site to ask for help… everyone here is lovely! :)
@swest87 Me too! I’ve just been reading and trying different teas. I love the dragon black pearl from Adagio, which is also where I got my tumbler. I like carrying my tea around and sipping it through the day because, like you, I’m moving from coffee.
Start with a sampler pack… it gives you a range of teas to try and then you can pick the tea that suits you best.

Let us know what you think.
Welcome! Don’t know that I have much to add to the good advice I am reading here—these tips are great. When you start venturing into the world of green and white teas, pay attention to recommended time and temp suggestions, otherwise, you’ll have a cup of nothing but bitter. If, like me, you’re not a “precisely” person, good solid black teas that give you some leeway to walk off and forget the mug are best.
