oolong tasted like.... seaweed...
ok, so im only just getting into loose leaf, and i have a few samples of teas. i opened one that was simply labeled taiwan dark oolong. the first think i noticed is that there was not much of a smell from the bag. there was some, but not much. so i followed the instructions, and tried it. and it tasted like straight up seaweed… no other tastes, just seaweed. is this normal of oolongs, or did i get a bad sample?
That’s odd. The only tea I’ve had that tastes like seaweed is Japanese green tea. Most oolongs have a floral or roasted flavor. Where did you buy this tea from?
There are so many different types of Oolong tea – I can’t say that I’ve ever had one that tasted of seaweed before. There are Oolongs with fruit notes, there are Oolongs with roasted notes, there are Oolongs with floral notes and Oolongs with creamy notes or nutty notes. But I can’t say that I’ve ever tasted one that tastes of seaweed.
thanks for the replies :) the leaf was from a company called tastealeaves. i bought some silver needle from them on ebay. they have their own website but on ebay it was the same price, but free shipping lol. anyway, the silver needle both smelled and tasted like old, moldy hay, so i sent them a message and returned it, and they gave me a new bag with 3 samples as an apology, the oolong, some dragonwell, and some lavender green pearl. i’ve not tried the new silver needle yet, as i just bought some from teavana and i want to infuse that before opening the new bag. the dragonwell simply tasted like regular green tea to me, and the pearl tasted like perfume. so far im not holding out on the quality of the silver needle :(
sorry for the long post >.>
