Teas Marked for Deletion Thread
Wasn’t sure what to do about this. I accidentally made a double of a tea that is new, so then I changed the info on the page to just say “please delete”.
I tried to edit it and saw a little square on the bottom left that allowed me to try to delete it. Not sure if that is a mod power or not though…and not sure it worked!
Steepster has needed someone to go through and reorganize/delete duplicates for awhile now. As an example, look up “Menghai” – it’s a duplicate mess.
I don’t think Steepster allows for exact duplicates, but as much as one word different is different enough. I noticed that a tea I entered with the vendor being “EBay Streetshop88” was duplicated by someone else as the exact same tea, word for word except just saying “Streetshop88”.
I added that other tea because I was looking through the teas in “Streetshop88” didn’t know the company was double entered – the tea wasn’t there so I added it…. Everyone enters things different – I would never think to look under “ebay” and the search function sucks here – there will always be duplicates because everyone enters things different and searches different
i have been longing for someone to give me the power to clean up duplicates….my ocd would love that project.
Oh gosh, me too. There are a few teas in my stash that have duplicate pages so I just added both of them to my cupboard since I couldn’t decide which one to go with and it irritates me, haha.
Seriously, if they gave the right permissions to a small handful of people, they could get the database cleaned right up.
I used to email Jason with duplicates all the time, and he’d merge them. One big thing is actually merging them, NOT deleting entries, because you don’t know if someone has drank something, or added it to their cupboard, or whatnot (although you can see the wants/has list now, which is nice).
Also, I want to volunteer for this job too. Heh.
There are so many duplicates on Steepster. A big problem is that often times there will be a few names for the same company. It’s not a huge deal, but it becomes difficult to search through them if you don’t find a tea at first pass, and you end up accidentally creating a duplicate listing.
When I find duplicates (the one that’s annoying me right now is Tea Centre vs teacentre.ca) I usually email. But they told me the merging function was broken quite a while back. I’m not sure if it’s working again or not.
What if a forum thread was created for people to post duplicate teas, and then Jason or whomever could combine them whenever they found time? I didn’t want to e-mail about them when Steepster was having so many problems a while back… but now Steepster seems a little more tame! :D
