I prefer Chinese and Taiwanese teas at the moment – mostly because I’m a straight tea and oolong fiend. I do enjoy a good Assam now and then, and the occasional Darjeeling. And of course a good blended black tea (oh teas of the UK, be still my heart!) with a tad of sugar and milk.
Of course, limiting it to China and India as a bit problematic – I love Taiwanese oolongs with a passion better people reserve for family members, and if a green tea isn’t Japanese… well – green tea and tentacle porn can only be done perfectly by Japan say I.
Then there’s Thai oolongs…. rare and wonderful and if anyone knows anyone selling one right now, please tell me.
tl:dr Chinese straight teas have more interesting flavors then Indian straight teas.
Simpson and Vail sells a Thai oolong but I don’t think I’ve tried it. I have tried some of their other oolongs which have been good.

On another note, you have been reviewing your own teas and providing a numerical rating for them. Steepster allows vendors to review any teas but you’re not allowed to assign a numerical rating (see rule 9 in the discussion guidelines: http://steepster.com/discuss/67-discussion-guidelines-please-read-before-participating). I’m mentioning it because you might not have been aware, but users generally don’t appreciate it.
I like both. Really like Chinese and Taiwanese black tea. Then love some Assam.
Indian, by a country mile. I seldom drink Chinese teas these days.

I’ve been drinking a lot of both lately, but I think I generally prefer Chinese teas.
I find that I just am more likely to enjoy the flavour profile of a Chinese tea over an Indian one, though I do have some favourites that are from India. I like the complexity of Chinese and Taiwanese oolongs, and I find that Chinese blacks have, in my experience, been more likely to be smooth and sweet, with other flavours that I enjoy.
Oh dear, I am so specific with those sorts of things. Taiwan for oolong, Japan for green, India for rich blacks and sometimes white, China for puerh, yellow, and chocolaty delicious blacks, and Kenya for Silver needle white.
There are things I have seen, things I have experienced in China which have turned me away from Chinese teas. What those things are is a story for another time. I prefer my Darjeelings from India, and my High Mountain Oolong Teas from Taiwan.
Chinese has ALL classes of tea grown within its borders. White, Red, Puer, Green, Oolong… they have mastered the craft.
