Little Terri's Long Awaited Ultimate Sipdown Extravaganza!!!
So, my numbers are slightly off, it turns out.
250. 2005 changtai top of the clouds sample from Crimson Lotus… sad sip down
I hate when numbers are off. :(( But it looks like your numbers went down not up. :))
I have an issue right now too. The tea I was drinking last night wasn’t on my spreadsheet at all, and today I was looking through my steepster cupboard and I have a tea listed that I know I don’t have…. I need to print my spreadsheet and compare to cupboard here and find the errors… Hoping for numbers down not up….
i need to do a cupboard clean up next weekend…once the dog is gone. Need to know how out of wack things are heh
There was at least one tea on my spreadsheet that has been gone for awhile…
I really want to re-organize my entire stash…sigh…somehow setting it up so that teas & their corresponding teawares are somehow together…I know there is a way…
and by way of confession, I spent my entire playpal balance on my YS order…a new gongfu table (still a small one, but not leaking like the one I have now, and a little bigger), a Celadon gaiwan & 2 cups, because…well…there was a sale…and…I didn’t have anything Celadon in my collection…and…anyway, I also got all my favorite black teas, plus a few others that I never tried before…cuz I’m starting to run low on YS black teas, and we can’t let that happen, right? Plus I hadn’t bought any of the 2015 teas. No huge quantities though, just the 50G size of each.
You totally deserve some new teaware – can’t have a leaking table, and well with the sale and lack of celadon, seems like the perfect opportunity – especially if you had PayPal money.
I hear you about YS blacks. I bought a bunch of 2015 and got some through the last subscription box – now I don’t have any 2015 and only a bit of 2013 ZSXZ and some 2014 JJM. How is that possible? How can I only have TWO YS blacks?
I’ve decided that shipping charges are my biggest obstacle in having a balanced cupboard. You have to buy so much to hit free shipping OR you have to buy so much to make shipping worthwhile. I wish you could just order a tea or two as you need them rather than not buying any for a long time then placing huge order….. I know first world problems.
Yay!!! You have new teas incoming!!! :))
I don’t think moving to GTA is a realistic possibility. :(( I need to firm up my travel plans before I can commit to any sort of boxes. I need to keep reminding myself Africa > tea ….
When it comes to YS, there is no such thing as free shipping, so I always go with the cheapest option, although that means I might not see my stuff until new years…
OK I found the errors in my spreadsheet and corrected. It was just off to my steepster cupboard, so my actual numbers are correct (I hope) and I got a couple more done in the last couple of days.
Streetshop88 – 2011 Organic Premium Yunnan Aged Tree – 196
Golden Moon Tea – Sugar Caramel Oolong – 195
Travelling has slowed my sipdowns WAY down this month, but I did manage to finish two more teas this week:
67. Caramel Apple – Butiki (I’m sad to see this one go and SO tempted to buy another bag of Market Spice’s version; this is the perfect flavor for fall!)
66. Grapefruit Green – Lupicia
Finished off a couple more this week:
65. Black Pearls – Clipper Ship Tea Co.
64. Khongea Encore Assam – Butiki
My sip downs have also really been slow, but I did manage a few, not because I drank them, but because I gave them away. My friend Lisa came for breakfast & I gave her a Gaiwan & several teas to try out in it. Each of the teas I gave her were basically at sip down level.
249 Hand Picked Spring TGY – Verdant
248. Light Roast Anxi TGY – Verdant
247. Ten Year Aged TGY
Maybe next week I’ll try to shift into full Sipdown extravaganza mode :)
That’s right, Sister, Flaunt your sip down awesomeness! ;)
It would be great if I could polish off all the odds and ends before my YS order comes, then maybe I’ll still be below 250 :)
lol terri. my main problem atm is that i don’t have many small quantities of teas. so sipdowns are slooooooooww…
And my problem is I have way too much tea, so it’s hard to decide what to drink next :)
246. Shiguping Wulong Rincer – Camelia Sinensis
245. Mi Lan Xiang Reserve Dancong – Verdant
244. Wang Yanxin’s Jin Jun Mei – Verdant Reserve (might be from 2012 Sil)
243. 2007 Boyou shou – Puerh shop from Tea Explorer
Treasure Green – Xiaguan Green Xiao Tou Cha 1993 – 190
Yunnan Sourcing – 2008 Xiaguan Golden 8100 – 189
Yunnan Sourcing – Premium Grade Jin Jun Mei Fujian Spring 2014 – 188
Tea Source – Fireside Spice – 187
Slowly whittling them down…
242 2001 Witch’s Broom Raw Puerh – New Mexico Tea Co – from Sil
I am reluctantly sipping down my Butiki collection before it loses its flavor…
62. Pumpkin Butterscotch Coffee (this was the best pumpkin tea EVER!)
61. White Chocolate
60. Raspberry Truffle
Sipdowns! I haven’t had so many this month, and haven’t done a very good job of tracking there, but here is an update:
240. Ginger Peach – Traveling tea
239. Imperial Breakfast Summer Blend – Verdant – so sorry to see you go!
238. Zhu Rong – Verdant – another sad day…
237. Da Hu Sai Village Wild Arbor Black – YS
236. High Mountain Jin Jun Mei Black of Ai Lao Mntn – YS
Of course, these were the 2014 versions, and the 2015 versions are headed my way, so in a way it won’t even count, LOL, but they aren’t here yet…
I haven’t posted here in a couple of months (BAD DEX!!!) and in that time I’ve drank some, bought TONS, sent some out, and not kept up on my spreadsheet nor my Steepster cupboard.
I’ve spent a couple of hours yesterday and a couple more today weighing, organizing etc and not happy with my year end results (which I’m not posting yet I still have 4 days…).
In the grand scheme of things, I guess it’s not TOOOOOOO bad considering how much I bought in the Great Vancouver Shopping Excursion, but I still need to be better than this.
The other sort of good news is that my cupboard is pretty balanced right now – I’ve recently bought a crap load of black tea and quite a bit of fruit tisane – so I shouldn’t NEED anything for quite awhile.
So with that thought in mind – I’m going to go and put my stash back in the freshly cleaned drawers – make some tea, and see if I can’t get a few more sip downs in before the end of the year…..

That sounds like a lot of work!
You have motivated me to get mine under control. It is a good time to get the tea sorted out with the new year coming. I just have to wait until my husband goes back to work tomorrow so he doesn’t see how much I have. :/ It is always good to see how much I really have so I don’t forget about teas and they end up going bad.
OK I’ve kept my cupboard updated over the last couple of days and have the official ending 2015 – starting 2016 numbers…..
185 teas 9868g I think that’s pretty ugly. I did not do well this year.
I started last year at 235 teas 10523g so I really didn’t reduce by very much. Need to do better this year.
In all honesty I’m not really concerned with the 185 number (I have 22 that are less than 15g and several more less than 20g). If I concentrated on sipdowns I could get the number down, but I’m more concerned about quantity. I need to stop buying until I get the amount of down.
I’m not really sure what realistic goals for next year will be. I have a MOUNTAIN of pu’erh and if I set goals too low I would have JUST pu’erh in my house – that would not make me happy.
Soooooo….. I think I should be aiming for something like 125 tea and under 7KG. Will see how it progresses, but that’s what I’m thinking now.
Happy New Year!!!
ugh yes..that weight thing is a problem. I can’t wait for rental dog to leave so i can get organised and join in the “fun” :)
Yep. But if I drank one puerh (or oolong!) every day at 7g per, that’s 2.5 kilos less tea I’d have in 1 year.
OMG – you always have a way of putting things in perspective.
If I drank 7g of pu’erh everyday for TWO years I would still have pu’erh in my house. That’s not going to happen and if it did I pretty much wouldn’t drink anything else other than black at work.
NO MORE PU’ERH……
It’s a scary perspective, isn’t it?! O.o I am only allowed to replace things I drink up IF I REALLY REALLY LIKE/LOVE/ADORE them! Jeepers.
i can’t imagine drinking 1 puerh a day.. i’m lucky if i manage to do one a week…seriously need to figure out my goals for next year haha
I can’t even think about drinking one pu’erh everyday, but the alternative if I drank it once a week…
7g x 52 weeks = 364g/year
5000g/364= 13.7 years to drink my pu’erh assuming I ONLY have 5KG (I’m quite sure there is more than that)
I’m suddenly very afraid – even twice a week is almost 7 years…. uggg – so much for the strategy spreadsheet I made to keep me on track with drinking my older stuff first – “THE PLAN” to get back on track didn’t take this into consideration….
Even my small Puerh collection would take me over a year to consume if I drank it every day at my current rate of consumption if that makes you feel better. I’m still in denial with regards to my volume of other Teas. On the other hand I didn’t buy as much Tea as I had budgeted for this year either which is probably a good thing:-).
LOL yyz – ummm that doesn’t really make me feel better :)) Yay for staying under budget for last year!!!! Ummmm my word of advice is not to get into a denial situation – learn how much you have of those “others”. The first time I weighed my cupboard and it came out just over 14kg!!!! I didn’t buy any tea at all for about 5 months (that’s HUGE for me). Just do it – face reality (the shock wears off and you get used to the numbers). :))
I’m actually feeling ok (not great but ok) with my volume of other teas – pu’erh is a big problem – how did this happen? Why did I forget that you can’t drink as much pu’erh as you can other teas? I need to learn how to drink pu’erh at work. If I could stop drinking black and start drinking pu’erh at work that would really help this situation. I need to work on that figure something out…
I chose 7g because that’s what I generally like in my little pot! If I used my Yixing, it would be 4-5g. If I used a bigger pot, I’d scale it. :) I’m not so sure about Western steeping shengs, but I’m going to try with some of the other teas I have, so I can bring them to work.
Edit: Also, think of how delightfully aged your puerh will get as you slowly drink it up! ;)
