Little Terri's Long Awaited Ultimate Sipdown Extravaganza!!!
I’ve been really bad at updating my spreadsheet and my Steepster cupboard. I’ve bought a couple from Davids and drank a bunch – and while I was weighing today one or two might have had a little accident. Officially as of this moment I’m at 198 teas 9872g. So yay for being below both 200 and 10kg. In fairness of full disclosure I do have more incoming. About 8 for approx 250g, but I’m not counting them yet, they aren’t here.
So I’m resetting to 198 and hoping for a few more sipdowns yet this weekend.
Awesome! I still have quite a ways to go before I get below 200. Yay You!
Yay you got one more in!!!
Me too..

hmmm….I entered in some sip downs yesterday, but they aren’t here…oh well, probably forgot to hit post, I guess?
258. Pilochun green tea – no brand name here. The mother of one of my harp students is from Taiwan, and she gave me some teas from when she went home to visit. This is one of them.
257. Green Tea – this is another
256. Gunpowder Green – from Upton, thank you Stephanie
255. Silver Buds Yabao – sample from Verdant
254. Simao Spring Tips Pure Bud, Sp 14 – YS
My collection of black teas from YS is getting smaller. I keep telling myself that once they are all gone, I can finally purchase the 2015 black teas from YS, but I may not wait, I’ve been feeling the itch to fill a shopping cart!
i managed to get down to 93 but omgsrsly is arriving tonight with tea..so that’s out the window lol
I really wanted to have every person on steepster send you a box full of tea for your wedding present, but I thought Ian might file for divorce when all the boxes arrived, LOL.
I wish I could have come for your wedding, but since I can’t, I hope to see lots & lots of pics!! Love & hugs to you, Sarah, and I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!
Cornelia Bean – Peach Passion fruit – 191
Travelling Tea – Pumpkin Ginger Spice – 190
Silk Road – Big Red Robe – 189

That sounds good, but I got my Liquid Proust order in the mail today so really it’s 188 + 6 = 194

Speaking of which…
253. Lapsang Souchong Zhengshan Xiaozhong Black tea (2010) – Puerhshop, from Tea Explorer
My sip downs have been few & far between this month!
But you are getting a few here and there. :))
I’m going back into denial. I have severe OOCCS happening, and I really don’t want to add all the teas I’ve accumulated this week. I need to send out some care packages again….
I’ve been in denial for a few days, but have been tempted by some recent conversation. I need to come out of denial and NOT BUY MORE TEA. I got a Verdant order and I bought a bunch from my tea guy – it’s not my fault, he invited me over to try some tea and he had 2013 ZSXZ. Ugggg…
I did finish a couple of blacks at work last week so it’s not all bad news…
Camellia Sinensis – Xiao Zhong
Yunnan Sourcing – Da Hu Sai Village Wild Arbor
I didn’t reweigh my cupboard, just added what I bought and took out those two. My spreadsheet is currently showing:
204 teas 10477g
I Can’t wait to do a sip down. It is such a bitter sweet activity I look forward to!
Exactly!
I especially like to save mine up for awhile and do a bunch of them.
Sometimes it’s a relief to get through a bunch of them, if they are teas somebody sent me that I didn’t really love, but still feel that I should give them a fair sampling. Other times it’s definitely a sad sip down…sigh…
This week’s sip-downs:
73. Fantasy Island – David’s Tea
72. Awake – Tazo
71. Warm Cinnamon Bread – Butiki
Apparently, I miscounted somewhere along the line! But I did officially get down to 70 teas today. However, I just found out that I’m going to be in the area of my nearest David’s Tea later on this month (which is kind of a big deal, since it’s 4 hours away from where I live) and my resolve not to buy any more tea until I get down below 40 is definitely weakening…
Good job!!! I can’t even imagine 40 – I don’t think I’ve ever been at 40. I think I went from 6 to 100 in a very short period of time…. LOL and haven’t ever been back to 100. I’m not enabling (ok maybe a little) – just thinking that variety is the spice of life…. Enjoy your trip to Davids. :)
Yeah, I definitely get where you’re coming from. I go back and forth between comparing myself to other people on Steepster (I have practically NO tea compared to some of you) and the “normal” people I know IRL (who consider 5+ teas to be a lot). But for me personally, since I drink mainly flavored teas and haven’t gotten into Puerh at this point, I need to keep my collection manageable so I can drink it all before it loses its flavor!
I think that’s a good strategy, Inkling!
I think I have a long term goal of having 30 black teas, one for each day of the month, LOL, and then an un-determined number of Other teas… Like maybe a few greens & Oolongs. I really want the majority of my collection to be teas that I really love, like old friends, with a few things to sample here & there for variety & to satisfy my curiosity. Then there’s puerh…my collection is already too big to drink each one once a month…I actually haven’t been drinking many of them lately.
A new month, a new strategy, right?
I’m starting Oct with 252 teas, here’s the breakdown:
2 green
23 oolongs
33 blacks (one flavored…laoshan black genmaicha)
56 Shu
101 Sheng (how the F*@& did that happen?..oh…teaclubs…)
4 Heicha
6 Flavored Puerh
27 Tisanes/Herbs/etc
So far my strategy is to drink one black tea each day (I drank 2 today), and then shift to other varieties. I won’t make it through the entire collection in one month, but I’ll do my damnedest to try, and more importantly, I’ll enjoy every cup, because quality is always more important than quantity!
Wow – I’d be scared to breakdown my cupboard that way – would make me see the gaps and buy more tea. :)
I guess it depends on quantities, but those numbers don’t really seem that out of control to me (ok 101 sheng, but it gets better with age right?) Seems like you have a nice variety.
If you drink one black each day you will just naturally get some sip downs in. I think your plan to enjoy every cup is more important. As long as you are drinking it, the volume has to go down.
I think you are doing great :))
you people have tea spreadsheets?
i realise now i have a long way to go with my tea addiction. currently have about 30-40 teas in my box(es)
LOL – yes spreadsheet. All teas listed by company – tea name – type of tea – when bought – how much I have – short note on if I liked it or not. I have a column for if it’s in Steepster cupboard or not. Totals of actual cupboard – Steepster cupboard – and total weight.
I go through and weigh all my teas every 3 or so months and update how much I have.
Shrug – my life got easier once I created my spreadsheet, can’t imagine not having it now.
Everyone’s addiction manifests itself differently. If you are happy with your 30-40 in your box(es) then that’s perfect – don’t let us influence what you should/shouldn’t be doing. If your cupboard ever explodes up over 150 (400) spreadsheets are your best friend. :))
mine is steadily growing, Oolong & Darjeeling. I havent even started on Pu Ehr or flavoured/mixes. Im scared what will happen if i do!
Im not making fun, i get into things like that when having to organise :)
I update my spreadsheet every month & print it out. Then I can write on it, draw cute little pictures, make comments, etc. At the end of the month I staple it together & put it in the file cabinet, which is probably ridiculous. Someday when I die it will be an episode of Hoarders – the Tea Addict Edition…as they go through all my teas, tea journals, monthly spreadsheets, and various other tea paraphernalia. Hopefully they will actually be inspired to drink the teas & enjoy all the teapots & stuff. I’ll roll over in my grave if they just trash it all! And then come back to haunt them! ;)
I fear this is all rubbing off on me. my mind is now trying to imagine how much better life would be if I incorporated a tea spreadsheet into it! :)
Heh, I have a spreadsheet, but it’s woefully out of date. I should probably dust it off.
Mandala – White Night – 203
Lupicia – Framboise Chocolat – 202
Yunnan Sourcing – ZSXZ 2015 – 201
