Good luck, I hope everything works out!
I want to thank everyone for your well wishes. It’s a really exciting time.
My daughters just got finished filming the video: my youngest daughter enjoys making videos so she was the one behind the camera and my oldest – my business partner in this venture – is the one in front of the camera. So, my youngest now needs to edit the video and hopefully I’ll get the campaign submitted to Kickstarter tonight and I’m not sure how long it takes for them to approve it for launch.
But soon! Hopefully it will all happen soon!
Do you plan on transferring the subscriptions from the current 52Teas company to the new one, or will we need to re-subscribe?
You will probably need to re-subscribe – I’m not sure yet though. I’m assuming that you’ll need to re-subscribe since the payment is currently set up through his merchant account. Once we see that the kickstarter is going to happen, we’ll be setting up a business account with a merchant account so that we can accept both paypal and direct CC payments.
We SHOULD be able to do this seamlessly, unless you want to use a different cart or something.
Cool – I don’t want to use another cart! I wasn’t sure how that would work! Thanks!
Do you plan on addressing the quality issues people seem to be having with 52teas lately, or are you going to stick with Frank’s recipes and suppliers?
I’ve already been shopping for suppliers and requesting samples. If I’m not happy with a tea, I won’t sell it. My first order of business is to create a black tea base that I’m happy with.
One of the things that really has helped me is that for the last six+ years I’ve been reviewing tea so this has gotten me in touch with a whole lot of different suppliers – not just retail but also wholesale suppliers and now that I’m shifting gears I’ll get in touch with some of those suppliers.
I’ve been receiving samples pretty regularly – not just as a tea reviewer but now also as a purveyor – so I’ve been testing those out to create blends I’m really happy with. I’m the first customer, if I’m not happy with something, then I’m not going to sell it to someone else.
That’s awesome…I can’t wait to see what you put together!
A new black base might tempt me into trying a few flavours. I haven’t purchased from 52Teas in years, mostly because I didn’t like the black tea base.
As someone who never really liked the 52 teas black base, that’s exciting! Will definitely be giving it another try :) Best of luck to you!
I have a new question for everyone: recently, Frank has been announcing his four (or five, depending on the month) flavors of the month at the start of the month and the packages have been shipped at the beginning of the month rather than the end.
Do you guys prefer this practice, or do you want the flavors to be kept a secret until the Monday of that week?
Would you rather:
a) have a post that announces all the teas of the week for the month at the beginning of the month and receive the subscription package at the beginning of the month.
b) have four (or five) individual posts, posted on Monday of that week, announcing that week’s tea of the week, and receive all of the teas of the week for the month at the beginning of the month (which would kind of ruin the surprise for subscribers, but for those who don’t subscribe, it would be a mystery unveiled at the beginning of each week)?
or
c) have the weekly post announcing the tea of the week and it would be OK to receive the subscription package at the end of the month, after the last tea of the week has been announced?
Please tell me what you think would work best. I wouldn’t mind doing it either of those ways, it’s not a matter of what would be best for me because I already have at least a year’s worth of tea ideas on a great big list waiting for me to just decide what week they’re going to be a tea of the week. So, it’s not a matter of coming up with something, I was just wondering if anyone didn’t like the monthly announcement that contained all four (or five) teas of the week in one announcement.
I prefer the weekly announcements of new teas, rather than 4 or 5 at the beginning of the month. I don’t (and won’t) subscribe, though, so no particular opinion there!
Getting the tea at the end of the month doesn’t appeal to me. Weekly announcements sound more appealing than monthly. However, I don’t think I’m currently interested in a subscription. It would currently cost me half my monthly tea budget.
I subscribe, and I want to have the tea in my hands when the announcements are made so that I can try them and log them right away. I personally liked the announcements each week…I didn’t like it when we would have the one big announcement at the beginning of the month, and I didn’t get the teas for at least a week after that.
The reason I subscribed is so that a)I didn’t get shut of out announced teas, b)so I could try new stuff (and at least I’d know I didn’t like it), and c)if I liked it, I’d have enough time to order more if I wanted.
I want my subscriber teas to be sent at the beginning of each month. I want to be able to try them before they are officially released, and be prepared to splurge on one that I love (while it is still in-stock!).
I liked getting the weekly E-mail with the new tea being announced. It was something to look forward to on Monday, and there was sometimes a surprise sale or some other update. However, were I to subscribe, I’d want to have the opportunity to try the tea beforehand so that when you made the announcement, I’d be able to know whether I wanted to order more, and preferably, in a larger 2-ounces size.
Thanks and best of luck with this venture.
Thank you to everyone who has responded to my question about announcements/subscription shipments. It has helped immensely!
