Not sure, but A LOT!!

Ubacat said

LOL I love that comment. I really don’t want to total mine up either.

If I totaled mine up it would frighten me.

I’ve been focusing on drinking my older teas, so I haven’t spent much on tea this year… yet. I always spend a lot during the fall and winter months, so we’ll see how I do then.

I’m not sure how much I spend on tea, but I’m guessing it’s about $300 a year. I didn’t start counting at the beginning of the year, but June was:

$92 Capital Teas
$52 Harney & Sons

I don’t expect to buy tea again until October, when I stock up on my fall and winter teas.

While I get that tea is a luxury, am I the only one that considers tea to be a part of their food budget? I’d probably spend just as much money on soda in a year if I drank that instead…

Completely a part of the food budget.

Just ordered a pot and gaiwan from Yunnan Sourcing, along with some roasted oolongs. I am still under from what I had spent at this point one year ago, so am very happy about that!

Last year at this time I had spent 962.46.

boychik said

Can’t wait to see your new pot and Gaiwan ;D

scribbles said

I tried soooo hard to hold off, but I finally caved. couldn’t fight the urge any more. will post pics as soon as I get the order

Dexter said

Lol which one did you get from YS? Since I’m shopping?

scribbles said

@Dexter – I really wanted a light coloured pot and I had been looking at this pot for a year!!! and finally made the purchase:

http://yunnansourcing.com/en/teapots/321-ben-shan-green-clay-xi-shi-yixing-teapot-190ml.html

and I hope to purchase this one really soon:

http://yunnansourcing.com/en/teapots/1228-dragonkilnniugaiburntduanniclayyixingteapot.html

and I made the buy…. AAAGH

boychik said

Oh they are beautiful.

scribbles said

Thanks @boychik! I’m kinda wishing I got the second one first. I’ll probably just cave and buy it soon.

Dexter said

I love the speckles. I think both of those are really nice. I keep saying no more, and then end up buying “just one more”…. oh well could have worse hobbies. :))

boychik said

I’ve just noticed the second one is very popular. Two other styles same author were wiped out. Like 85. In one day. Probably some store bought it. And it’s sale now. Just FYI. I know I’m not doing you any favor. But they disappear or increase in price drastically. Or both. Im stocking the site. I know I have #teawareacquiringdisorder ;(

yyz said

Oh Dexter I know what you mean. I keep on telling myself enough for now but there’s the 65 ml por I’ve been eyeing and then there’s teacups :-)…..

scribbles said

I love the speckles too Dexter!! That’s why I wish I got that one first.

I didn’t realize the other 2 styles sold out that fast, boychik! Dammmm! The sale prompted me to place the order for the first one. How to justify another order so soon?

boychik said

Ok . I just close my eyes and press the button. Seriously, I missed on some pots when I didn’t act quickly. I’m so sorry. I don’t want to push you. Fairy has this pot , using for red teas I think . She loves it. It’s gorgeous. And priced much cheaper than others because they didn’t increase it . Yet. The black ones used to be $53 I think. Now they are $82

boychik said

I think I need to delete my last post because I sound crazy …

scribbles said

No no @boychik! We’re all in the same place :) your advice is very helpful. I don’t feel like you’re pushing tea ware, haha. I was thinking of using the speckled one for roasted oolong.

boychik said

Btw are you aware of loyalty points on YS? If you just placed an order you got some. You can apply them as well as sale code

scribbles said

Cool. Do you apply the loyalty points in the same place as the sale code?

boychik said

Yep. You go to my loyalty points, redeem them. Get a code and apply at the same place. So you will have 2 separate deductions

scribbles said

Awesome!! Thanks!

Dexter said

You can use loyalty points AND a discount code? I need to figure out how to do that and adjust my potential order accordinly?

Dexter said

Oh you can!!!!!!!! Once you put in one code there is still the box to add another. This is dangerous news…..

scribbles said

Good to know! Haven’t tried it out myself. Yet.

scribbles said

Went ahead and bought the pot!!! If I can hold off not making any more purchases until October, then I think i’m good! @boychik…thanks for advice!! (you enabler, you…haha) Just kidding. Was gonna purchase it at some point, but better sooner than later…..

Dexter said

:)) Better sooner while it’s still availabe. Better sooner while there is a sale. Sooner you get it the soonef you can start building up patina and flavor….

scribbles said

totally agree @Dexter! Next on my acquisition list…tea table…

Dexter said

Tea tables are awesome. They are also really personal. My only advice is to NOT rush into one. Decide what size, style, material, colour suits you best. Unlike pots you probably won’t buy several. Do lots if research and get the best one to suit your style. Spend a little more and buy one perfect one, rather than a couple of just ok ones. :)

scribbles said

Thanks for the advice Dex! Totally agree that several ok ones are not what i’m looking. The search begins on receipt of the new pots. I was totally eyeballing the Mandala natural edge tea tables, but at the time it was out of my price range. Am totally into natural edges. Can’t wait to acquire the perfect table.

yyz said

I love my Tea tables. I have two, a wooden one and a clay one. The clay one is a little bit more portable around the house and holds more water. It tends to do better for messier gongfucha sessions. I love the natural edge wood ones too. Though most recently I had to talk myself out of another rather beautiful clay one that had a pond motif and was oval and naturally stylised. Best wishes on finding your dream table. I’ve seen a number in China town Toronto but none of the natural edge ones.

scribbles said

I wanted to make a trip to China town soon anyway, so I’m gonna start my search there. I also want check golden coast teas and see what they have.

Dexter said

I really need to plan a tea shopping vacation to GTA, but not sure my cupboard could handle it. Maybe that should be motivation to gain control – you can go to TO once you reach X amount of tea.
Scribbles – enjoy your China town excursion. :))

scribbles said

So, I just looked on Yunnan Sourcing site and oddly enough the light coloured pot is out of stock!! When I made the purchase I think there was something like 900+ of those pots in stock. Glad I bought it! They still have 70-something of the speckled one in stock, though.

boychik said

some tea stores buy it for resell. not necessarily in US. i’ve seen some YS pots on Russian tea sites

scribbles said

I guess I was lucky to buy it when I did.

I have spent between $200-$250 aprox in pu ehr, green and black tea

I can’t imagine what I’ve spent this year…I was big on coffee at the beginning so I think my tea buys have been pretty limited to the past three months or so. I like this idea for at least tracking how much I’m spending though, because holy crap my tea collection about doubled recently!

My husband needs his own listing. He just ordered 19 teas from DF.

With or without your knowledge…?

With.

Is his taste similar to yours?
Edit
DID HE BUY 1900G?

^^ Pretty sure he did.

(Totally O/T but LP I got your swap package today! I’ve got one of your teas cold brewing in the fridge now, and drinking the flowering tea currently – it’s VERY good)

Similar taste, and yes. Until a few months ago he would only drink Vanilla Comoro.

Maybe I’m odd for saying this, but: Congratulations :)
